Pitching leaders include Brian Mazone who is 5th in innings (116.2), 5th in homers allowed (15), and 4th in WHIP (1.16).  Les Walrond is 9th in ERA(3.32).  JA Happ is 8th in ERA (3.31), 10th in IP (108.2), leading the league in strikeouts (116), and 7th in WHIP (1.20).  Matt Childers is 2nd in the league with 15 saves.

Lehigh Valley continues in last place in the IL Northern Division at 31-51, 19.5 games behind division leading Pawtucket.  Among the hitting leaders, continues to be Mike Cervenak who is 3rd in at bats (297), 7th in runs(48), 1st in hits (92), and 8th in average (.310). Andy Tracy is 5th in the league in walks (40), and 8th in the league in on base % (.392).  Although struggling a bit lately, Brian Mazone remains among the IL pitching leaders.  He is 7th in wins (7), 9th in ERA (3.29), 2nd in starts (16), first in innings (104.0), 4th in homers allowed (13), and 5th in WHIP (1.12).  James Happ continues to lead the lead in strikeouts (99) and is 7th in innings pitched(94.1). Matt Childers has been very strong lately and is now 4th in the league with 11 saves.

This weeks report a day early as I prepare for a trip to Las Vegas tomorrow…The ‘Pigs now stand at 26-48, in last place in the Northern Division, 18 games back of Scranton.  Since the last report, Lehigh Valley has lost 4 out of 5 games including a 4 game sweep by Pawtucket.

Mike Cervenak remains among hitting leaders in at bats (3rd with 269), runs (7th with 45), and hits (1st with 83).  Andy Tracy continues his climb among hitting leaders.  He is 8th in RBIS’s (44), 3rd in walks (38), and 10th in on base percentage (.390).  Among pitching leaders, Brian Mazone is 5th in wins (7), 9th in ERA (3.12), first in innings pitched (98.0), and 4th in WHIP (1.09). Lehigh Valley has certainly played better during the second quarter of the season (even if there was only one place to go), and credit must be given to the front office, manager and players for recognizing several “problem areas”, and either let them go, or addressed them.  Several fundamentally sound players were brought in after the horrific start and that has led to some exciting days at Coca Cola Park.  The following grades are simply my opinion, of the performance thus far this year of players currently on the Lehigh Valley roster. The passed week was another decent one for Lehigh Valley as they went 4-3 on the week. Mike Cervenak continues among league leaders in several categories including at bats (5th-249), runs (6th-43), hits [1st-78] and avg. (10th-.313). Andy Tracy is 3rd in the league in walks (36). Pitching leaders include Brian Mazone who is 4th in wins(7), 9th in ERA (2.93), leading the league in innings (92.0), and 4th in WHIP (1.04). JA Happ is 5th in innings (82.0) and leading the league in strikeouts (87). Matt Childers is 5th in the league with 8 saves. The passed week was a fairly rough one for Lehigh Valley as they went 3-4 on the week, and are now at 21-41 on the year, 16.5 games back of front running Scranton in the Northern division of the International League.  Looking at Iron Pigs among the league leaders, Mike Cervenak continues his rise in numerous categories, including at bats (5th-221), runs (5th-38), hits (1st-71), and average (.321). Andy Tracy is 3rd in walks (31) and 10th in homers (10). Among pitching leaders are Brian Mazone who is 5th in wins (6), 2nd in inninigs pitched (79.0) and 5th in WHIP (1.10) and JA Happ who is 3rd in innings (77) and leading the league in strikeouts with 81. Lehigh Valley continued their consistent play over the last several weeks, going 4-3 this week and are now 18-37,  16.5 games back in the Northern Division of the IL. Looking at hitting leaders, Mike Cervenek is 6th in AB’s (195), 5th in runs (34), 2nd in hits (63), 9th in RBI’s (35), and 4th in average (.323).  Andy Tracy is 9th in homers (9) and 2nd in walks (30). Pitching leaders include Brian Mazone is 2nd in wins(6), first in innings (72.2), and 6th in WHIP (1.10). JA Happ is 7th in innings (64.1) and leading the league with 70 strikeouts. Matt Childers is now 5th in the league with 8 saves and ‘Pigs pitchers continue to struggle in the homers allowed department.  Ron Chiavacci is 6th (9), Brian Mazone is 7th (9), and former ‘Pig JD Durbin is 9th(8). Hitting leaders include Mike Cervenek who is 8th in the league in at bats (167), 6th in runs (29), and 4th in hits (52). Andy Tracy is 6th in the league in homers (8), and 10th in RBI’s (28). Pitching leaders include Brian Mazone who is 5th in wins (5), and leading the league in innings pitched (65.2). JA Happ is 5th in innings (57.1), 7th in homers allowed (8), and leading the league in strikeouts with 66.
