Today we complete the first 20 of our Reader Top 30 for 2009. Sebastian Valle took the #19 spot by a fairly wide margin over Vance Worley, with the rest of the vote getters tightly clustered. Naughton, Saunderson and Cruse received write in votes this time, and I’ll add Naughton to the poll as he’s been in before.

Reader Top 30; #19
Short on time today, but I wanted to get this one up. We’re on the verge of completing the first 20 on the list, and the list looks very strong right now. Toolshed Anthony Hewitt takes #18 over Sebastian Valle, who’s support has picked up over the last few votes. Check for more below the fold…
Reader Top 30; #18
Mike Stutes took spot 17 in a runaway, capturing 94 of the 264 votes cast. Anthony Hewitt and Sebastian Valle battled it out for 2nd, taking 42 and 48 votes respectively. Andrew Carpenter received 2 write-in votes and will enter the poll for #18. Also receiving write-ins; Justin De Fratus, Brad Harman and Mike Cisco. The next few votes should be interesting as we round out the top 20, and then get into the even more speculative 21-30 range. More below…
Reader Top 30; #17
Drew Naylor took home spot number 16 in closely contested voting. Mike Stutes made a nice surge, no doubt helped by his positive press in the BA chat. Anthony Hewitt also received 5 write-in votes, so he enters the voting. We’re going to keep motoring along with the Top 30, when we finish I’ll have a few comparison pieces on certain prospects, and then I hope to unleash my Top 30 sometime in early February. For now, let’s get to #17
Reader Top 30; #16
Let’s kick it back into gear. We’re now over half way to the finish line. Julian Sampson took the #15 slot, grabbing 59 of the 145 votes. He rounds out our Top 15, giving us a solid group…

Reader Top 30; #15
The voting between Antonio Bastardo and Edgar Garcia again went down to the wire, with Garcia edging him out 71-69. As was mentioned, I’m going to put Garcia 13 and Bastardo 14, and we’ll move straight to #15. I’m going to add in 1 player to fill in the gap in the voting, and of course, write in votes are welcomed.
Reader Top 30; Runoff for #13
Reader Top 30; #13 + Happy Holidays
Newly acquired John Mayberry Jr takes him spot #12 in the Reader Top 30, while Edgar Garcia and Antonio Bastardo engaged in a tight race for 2nd place. The Phillies BP Top 11 list should be out today or tomorrow, when it is I’ll have some thoughts, but please don’t post the full text here. Kevin Goldstein, the writer of the list, has agreed to do a Q/A, and I’ll start a separate post on that to solicit questions for him. So lets just keep this to the discussion of #13. I’ll try and get that post of the Top 11 up when BP runs it, but that will be my last transmission until after Christmas. So, from me to you, Happy Holidays and thanks for continuing to come back. Now onto #13…
Reader Top 30; #12
Another day, another step closer to completing the Reader Top 30. Hard thrower Jason Knapp took the 11th spot with a solid 46% of the vote. The group behind him was real closely contested, with Mayberry, Bastardo and Garcia all gaining at least 10% of the vote. I was hoping to write up something on Joe Savery, but I’m not sure if I’ll have time Friday. Anyway, onto #12….
Reader Top 30; #11
We’ve now got 1/3 of our Top 30 completed, with 2008 supplemental first rounder Zach Collier rounding out the Top 10. Collier had an impressive debut and has already drawn Garrett Anderson comps, so the sky is the limit. Things will get tricky now as we move into the 11-20 range. Lots of interesting guys, and the voting figures to be tight. Also, just a heads up, Kevin Goldstein will unleash his Phillies Top 11 prospects at Baseball Prospectus in the next day or two, and hes agreed to do a Q/A for us again. If you aren’t a BP subscriber, now is as good a time as any. Not only do you get multiple prospect updates every week from KG, but you get good MLB analysis as well. So be on the lookout for the Phillies Top 11, I’ll have some thoughts on it when its posted (please don’t post the full scouting reports or anything of the sort) and then I’ll take questions for Kevin. Anyway, onto number 11…
