Travis Mattair takes #22, grabbing 79 votes. There was a tie for 2nd place between Andrew Carpenter and Damarii Saunderson, so voting for #23 should be interesting. There were also 18 write-in votes, some of them serious, some of them jokes I’d expect out of a 5 year old. The legit write-ins; Gose, Slate, De Fratus, Matos, Shreve, and Harman. For some reason, Terry Tiffee got 5 write-in votes. He’s not even really a prospect. So, here we go..

Keith Law ranks Phillies system 11th
I know Keith Law “hates the Phillies” and is biased, but he did have this to say about our system…
11. Philadelphia Phillies: This system has improved dramatically in the past year, in particular because of the emergence of two tools guys, Dominic Brown and Michael Taylor, who weren’t really on the radar last winter. The system could make a big move up if a few high-risk/high-reward picks from this year pan out.

Reader Top 30; #22
We march on toward #30, with Freddy Galvis easily taking the 21st spot, grabbing 91 out of the 240 votes cast. There was also quite a surge in write-in votes, with Damarii Saunderson netting 4, Justin De Fratus 2, Javon Moran 3, and a few others with 1. Saunderson will re-enter the voting for #22 since he had the highest write-in total, and Moran will replace Naughton, as he ended up with more votes in the last poll. More below…
Reader Top 30; #21
Vance Worley rounds out our Top 20, grabbing 86 of the 275 votes cast, good for 31% of the vote. Andrew Carpenter came out of nowhere, grabbing 36 votes finishing behind Freddy Galvis (60) and Travis Mattair (40) in 4th spot. Saunderson, Shreve, Roth, Schwimer, and Bolsenbroek received write-in votes. I’m going to add Roth to the #21 voting since no one received multiple write-ins. For those of you who are finding this process laborious, the only thing I can say is, there isn’t a whole lot of news in January, and unless we want to have the same circular debates we had all of last season, this is something to at least pass the time. I’ve been strapped for time of late, but I have a few pieces I want to write in the next few weeks. When the Reader Top 30 voting finishes up, I’ll take individual lists and organize them for everyone to see and compare, and then I’ll be putting out my Top 30. And then it should be spring training time, so we’ll have more to discuss. So yeah. Lets move on to #21…
Reader Top 30; #20
Today we complete the first 20 of our Reader Top 30 for 2009. Sebastian Valle took the #19 spot by a fairly wide margin over Vance Worley, with the rest of the vote getters tightly clustered. Naughton, Saunderson and Cruse received write in votes this time, and I’ll add Naughton to the poll as he’s been in before.

Mike Stutes took spot 17 in a runaway, capturing 94 of the 264 votes cast. Anthony Hewitt and Sebastian Valle battled it out for 2nd, taking 42 and 48 votes respectively. Andrew Carpenter received 2 write-in votes and will enter the poll for #18. Also receiving write-ins; Justin De Fratus, Brad Harman and Mike Cisco. The next few votes should be interesting as we round out the top 20, and then get into the even more speculative 21-30 range. More below…

Drew Naylor took home spot number 16 in closely contested voting. Mike Stutes made a nice surge, no doubt helped by his positive press in the BA chat. Anthony Hewitt also received 5 write-in votes, so he enters the voting. We’re going to keep motoring along with the Top 30, when we finish I’ll have a few comparison pieces on certain prospects, and then I hope to unleash my Top 30 sometime in early February.
