General Discussion – Week of 7-2-2012

First half is over.  Second half would have to be as good as the first half was bad to get to .500.  And I wasn’t even a math major.

International Signing

Per Ben Badler at BA, the Phils have signed Jose Pujols, who Badler called #20 in International FA market.  “Philadelphia has signed Dominican corner outfielder Jose Pujols for $540,000. Pujols, 16, has tremendous righthanded power and bat speed from his lanky 6-foot-4, 175-pound frame.”

Seeing Badler also reporting Phils signed 16-year old catcher Deivi Grullon.  Commenters below have info on him already, but Badler called him the 15th best Intl. prospect last week.

Altherr’s stats are actually looking pretty good this year.  Ks remain pretty bad, but walks are near 8.5%, better for him.  20/26 stealing bases.  He’s still a nice prospect, IMO.

Kinda interested in this catcher they got for Jim Thome.  Also interested in Kyrell Hudson with 4 hits.  If he could do that thrice a week, he’d be all set.  Someone let him know I suggested that.

Box Score Recap 6-29-2012

Posting this for you all while I sit in a hotel staying cool, instead of sitting at my house burning up.  Much like I would be if I were standing next to Cameron Rupp.  For he is, literally, (am I using that term correctly?), ON FIRE.

Brody Colvin had a really good June.  So, if he has an equally good July, do you promote him?

I like Jiwan James hitting out of the leadoff spot right now.  1-4 with a BB and scored 2 runs.  His BBs are up and Ks are down in June.  Couple more months of that and he’ll be looking pretty good.  Or it’s a streak, destined to flame out against the breeze of so many swinging strikes.  Cross your fingers for the former.

Leandro Castro is on a roll.  5 multi-hit games in his last 10.  Mario Hollands and Austin Wright with nice outings, Ervis Manzanillo and Jonathan Musser, not so much.  Though Manzanillo left kind of early for his line…hope there’s not an injury there.

Cameron Rupp with 6 XBH out of his last 9 hits.  He’s the anti-Asche.

General Discussion – Week of 6-25-2012

Your non-prospect related spot for the week. This week I’ll call it “Intrastate Love Song”, and suggest you discuss how the Pirates have the same colors as the Steelers and the Penguins, and how dumb the Phillies would look in orange or green.  Or both.  Eww…
