Site Improvements

Hi all,

While there is some down time in the prospect world I will be doing some improvements to the site.  Some of them are in the testing phase such as the Twitter feeds of writers and reorganization of the pages at top under player profiles.  As for the profiles, I am working on good ways of linking them out to news posts, and I have further 18 that are in draft form and will be up over the coming weeks.  Additionally all the existing profiles will get a quick update.

If there are any improvements to your reading experience that you would like to see, just post them here and I will take them under advisement based on what I have time for and what the WordPress site will allow me to do.

If you feel that any players are missing from the profiles let me know, they may be in the works or they may have just fallen through the cracks.

Thank you to everyone who stops by, whether they post or not.

Matt

  1. Separate pages for General Discussions and Box Scores. Home page can be set up the way the site currently runs (newest post at the top), but clicking on the page for, say, GD will take you to a list of those threads sorted by date.

Makes it easier if all we have to do to find the GD is click a button instead of sifting through all the box scores during the season.

Also, it may be worth making the GD a forum rather than the current set up, for the simple fact that this reply system is not conducive to long arguments/debates/discussions.

  2. I think everything is great but if I am going to be picky, I like to see links to prospects baseball reference page. So when I read about someone, I can just click on it and get the current and career minor league stats. I would probably too much work to put everywhere but at last on their prospect profile pages and top 30 lists and other articles where you think it would be useful to click and look at their career stats. (that is what I usually do after reading certain pieces.)

    1. Nick,

I am currently working on this, I found a way to easily do the linking to the Baseball Reference pages, but ideally I would rather do the internal linking and then links out to Baseball Reference from there. There should be some sort of linking in every article going forward.

  3. I would like to see an app(lication) (I suppose that is what they call it, not up on all the technical jargon or techniques, so this may not be possible . But, if it is, maybe this can be considered.
Like to see an app , whereby, with each post made a clickable link is placed above it that will provide some circus music (the kind like they bring the clowns out to) and then the reader can opt to have certain postings accompanied by circus music.

And then there can be an unofficial holiday, corresponding to All Fools Day ( or April Fools Day) in which for a 24 hour period , absolutely nothing will be deleted. This would be similar to when (back in the Middle Ages) the Lord of the Manor would feast the Peasants once a year. Centuries later, I believe this turned into Thanksgiving. They can call this; All No-Deletion Day.

  4. This is one of my must read sites – thanks for all you do, as well to the other posters – the majority of which add interesting perspectives..

Not sure of the limitations that we have here, but responses to responses to responses on a mobile device is next to impossible to read. If you are reading a thread on your mobile device, it can take 30 seconds to just scroll through someones feedback to try to get to the next bit of feedback. I suspect there may be limitations based on the underlying software that is being used, but wanted to voice this feedback.

some of the links under the ‘resources’ section appear to be dated (i.e. Minor League Splits).

Matt – there was also a neat site that you have referenced at least a handful of times – of course I cannot recall the site. But, it posted minor league spray chart info. I found that to be interesting – perhaps this could be a new link under the resources link.

    Thanks!

    1. I am going to mess with the mobile version of the site this week, it may or may not change but I am going to see what I can do.

I have been going through the links, I have removed Minor League Splits and add mlbfarm.com with it linked to the Phillies page

      1. Not sure if possible, but would be nice if mobile only showed the initial response/post and merely displayed the number of responses as a summary notation where user would need to expand the comments to view additional replies.

I agree with Wes – the General Discussion thread if typically unreadable on a smart phone

I call this the LarryM bug.

  5. Thanx for the site and all of the work put into it.

I’d like to see threads where you go back and look at our past drafts (where are they now, best pick, worst pick, biggest surprise, biggest let down etc).
