Kenny Giles day took a decidedly downward turn around the eight inning of the game on October 19, when he was called upon to pitch to hitters and attempt to retire them. He was unable to do the latter. At all. Just saw his results from today, and they were ok, I guess. No runs, a walk, a hit and 2Ks in his first (and likely only), inning. Aaron Altherr has not appeared in a game since the 16th. I’m wondering is he’s still nursing that hand injury he had early on.
Cam Rupp has continued to hit, and injury replacement Cam Perkins has a couple knocks. Cam those guys hit? They certainly Cam. Cam, Cam. (Apologies to any Marilyn Monroe fans out there).
Kyle Simon has been pitching well so far, allowing just four baserunners in 5.1IP, and Austin Wright has two scoreless outings since his initial two scoreful outings. And finally, Mike Nesseth continues to exist, throwing baseballs with varying success. Hashtag analysis.
Here’s the link for the Phils’ Off-Season League stats. Of note there – Cesar Hernandez has been hitting some and taking some time in center field for Los Bravos de Margarita. Severino Gonzalez walked three men in his two innings of work, (wait, he did what???), and apparently Rodrigo Lopez is associated with the Phillies still. Somehow.

Castro is tearing it up. Wufffff

Yes he is as is Jim Murphy who seems to always hit.

So far, is Franco playing third or first base?

Franco has played exclusively at 3B. He’s made no errors in his 5 games. He’s been hitting mostly out of the 7 hole.

Sorry that was me above. New computer… no handle.
Also interesting thing about Franco is he has a SB. Must have been a double steal.

Thank you for that update.

I dont see why he couldnt get faster, he is obviously a good athlete and dedicated to his trade, unlike he who will not be named but shows up to spring training 30lbs over weight

Can he really make himself faster? It seems he has been working very hard at his trade and is still painfully slow. Maybe he is doing something wrong that a coach could correct, but his slowness does not seem to be a result of poor lower body conditioning. Some guys are just naturally slower than others, even guys who are very athletic and fit. Part of his problem may be not starting out of the batters box well. That might be teachable.

I think Franco can also use some conditioning. He looks a little soft in the middle.
For him remain to at third base, it might help if he regularly did quickness drills like some tennis players and other athletes.

If Rodrigo Lopez is back with the org, he’s a good replacement for Cloyd.

If the Phillies had signed Lopez, one of our contributors would have seen it. They probably never changed his status with the organization. The stats people with the winter leagues have done this before. They do a nice service. Let it be. I think it is simply an omission of a transaction that took place a while ago.

Do you think Lopez got excited to see he still has a MLB job ?
