Box Score Recap – 8/17/2013

All kinds of good stuff on Saturday. Cam Rupp with his 14th HR of the year in around 325 PAs, ISO near .200. Very strong. Tyler Henson with the Zach Green Special – 3-5 with 2 XBH, (both doubles), and 2Ks. Kelly Dugan with his 7th AA home run – his 17th overall in 2013. Zach Collier stays hot with three more hits – his post-ASB stats are actually looking pretty good. Hoby Milner and Ryan O’Sullivan allowed 7 hits and struck out 7 Dunedin Blue Jays in a combined shutout. Sam Hiciano went 3-5 with a double and two home runs – a single shy of The Big Wheel. Drove in 8 runs. Kind of a big day.

  1. Brad, what’s wrong with you? A guy has a 2 HR, Dbl and 8 RBIs and that’s not the lead? That’s a career day for most guys. Joking aside, Hiciano is interesting. He’s 19 and went straight from the DSL to Wlmsprt. This site talked about him a lot last year. He had a .284/.335/,444 line last year and impressed a bunch of us. He’s not really hitting well this year but he has 6 HRs (5 in his last 10 games). That’s pretty impressive, especially at Wlmspt. Maybe Mitch can tell us a little about him. He doubled his RBI total yesterday.

  2. I was all primed to see J.P. Crawford in Lakewood’s box score this morning. Oh well, 3-4 from Angelo Mora will suffice.

Everybody hits … in Lehigh Valley?

  3. Remember Franco”ABS” hit 230 in USA debut. Watchout for guys like Hiciano. Pujols Grullon. When the little light in there
Head flips on they run thru the system

  4. Angelo Mora had a nice day in what likely is his last extended action of the season at SS.

Anyone know what Gillies numbers are in AAA since he was brought back up from Reading?

    1. He came back July 1st IIRC. The AAA all-star game was a week and a half later so I tend to look at his stats after the break which come in at .261/.306/.370 with a 5% BB rate and 24% K rate. His August however (ss) has been outstanding. .333/.385/.479 with virtually the same BB and K rate. One thing I noticed is that his BABIP seems low for him. In the seasons he’s played at least 50 games (admittedly few) he’s posted a .397, .394, and .362 BABIP. This year in AAA he’s hovering at .289. I’m not sure what it’s been trending, assuming up with the improvement of his stats, but would be nice to see him finish strong. His days as a legit prospect are most likely behind him but with the swing change, the slow but steady improvement, and the ability to play all over the outfield, I wouldn’t mind him challenging for a reserve outfield role next year.

      1. What do you mean by “legit prospect”? Because Cesar Hernandez’ looking like a ML bench guy too, and I think everyone (or at least most people, not trying to put words into your mouth) still considers him a legit prospect.

As for his BABIP, its .322 for his minor league career, so yeah, right now its a little low. If he could just get that K rate down…

        1. I probably should have used a different word. I just meant concerns with age, injury history, off field stuff, etc. his days of looking like a potential starter are most likely over. I mean I could be wrong and with the new swing and hopefully newfound health he could be the next Victorino, but I just don’t see it. You are correct that even prospects that project as bench pieces are legit, just chose my words poorly.
