Hot or Not

A look back at the week of July 18-24. Quick thoughts…when your team is struggling offensively as much as the Phillies, dont you find a way to get Cody Asche into the major league lineup? He won’t fix things, but will at the very least add some energy. (Ruf to LF, Brown to RF, Young to 1B, Asche to 3B)…Cameron Perkins has really struggled since coming off the DL with his broken wrist…Ethan Martin has been pitching extremely well over the past two months and may be positioned for a September call up…I am getting pretty excited about Kenny Giles again.

  1. A little bit out of left fields I know, as he didn’t make the hot or not list, but is it just me, or does Anthony Hewitt = John Mayberry? Looking at Hewitt’s numbers he’s murdering LHP’s – and that’s about all he’s done. Occassional power, good arm, good speed – just looks to me like John Mayberry 2.0 (or maybe not “2.0” as in the software world “2.0” means new release, with upgrades. Not sure about the upgrades part).

Now what I need to figure out is, is that a compliment or a knock on Hewitt based upon where I think most of us think he’d end up.

    1. We would all be super happy if Hewitt turned into a Mayberry type player. I don’t think his defense is anything close to Mayberry’s though. And Mayberry also walks occasionally.

Hewitt’s L/R splits are interesting though. For his career they’re not as pronounced as they are this year, but he still hits lefties much better.
