Larry Greene, Jr, 20, Phils 1st round pick in 2011 draft; .234/.329/.317 in 278 AB’s; 2HR 23RBI; 5/9 SB; .131 vs. LH, .278 vs. RH, .229 with RISP; .275 since June 1; 13%bb/34% k rates. 77 games in the OF with 9 errors (.927); 2 OF assists; The good news is Greene has shown great improvement over the last two months, renewing hope that using a #1 pick on him wouldnt rank up there in the realm of Jeff Jacksonesque failures. The bad news: VERY pedestrian power and speed numbers combined with difficulties in the field and .131 against lefties.
Brian Pointer, 21, Phils 28th round pick in 2010 draft; .228/.346/.357 in 311 AB’s; 5HR 39RBI; 21SB; .177 vs. LH, .241 vs. RH, .276 with RISP; .225 since June 1; 11%bb/26% k rates; 85 games in the OF with 4 errors (.974); 5 OF assists, I have been infatuated with Pointer’s skill set since I saw him in Spring Training in 2011 and am pretty consistently disappointed by his line. The guy has skills. He needs to hit lefties and strike out less and probably has one more year to learn to do those things.
Zach Taylor, 22; Phils 12th round pick in 2012 draft; .257/.310/.417 in 144 AB’s; 2HR 9RBI; 1SB; .226 vs. LH, .265 vs. RH, .105 with RISP; 7%bb/37% k rates; Hitting .207 since June 1. 37 games in the OF with 6 errors (.920); 3 OF assists; Between a 37% K rate, .105 with RISP and 6 errors in 37 games, it has been a difficult season for Taylor.
Carlos Tocci, 17, Signed as a free agent in 2011; .223/.279/.268 in 314 AB’s; 0HR 18RBI; 6/12 SB; .257 vs. LH, .207 vs. RH, .225 with RISP; Hitting .205 since June 1; 7%bb/15% k rates. 86 games in the OF with 3 errors (.987); 6 OF an assists; Probably the most important stat for the 17 year old is a very good strikeout rate. Without the build to hit for much power, Tocci continues to do the best he can with what he has…which are excellent fielding skills, good baseball instincts and an outstanding eye.

Dylan Cozens, 19, Phils 2nd round pick in 2012; .236/.331/.406 in 106 AB’s; 4HR 14RBI; 7SB; 13%bb/23% k rates; 29 games in the OF with 1 error (.982); 3 OF assists; Cozens has shown flashes but is working for the consistency that we are looking for.
Samuel Hiciano, 19, Signed as a free agent in 2011; .228/.333/.333 in 57AB’s; 1HR 4RBI; 1SB. 9%bb/21% k rates; 15 games in the OF with 1 error (.972); 1 OF assist.
Gustavo Martinez, 19, Signed as a free agent in 2010; .255/.311/.296 in 98 AB’s; 0HR 3RBI; 7SB; 7%bb/25% k rates; 23 games with 1 error (.977); 2 OF assists. Has played fairly well, albeit without much in the way of run production.
Justin Parr, 22, Phils 8thround pick in 2013; .244/.309/.349 in 86AB’s; 0HR 12RBI; 3SB; 6%bb/16%K rates; 19 games in the OF with 1 error; 2 OF assists. Slightly disappointing so far for a relatively high pick from a major college program,
Jia Tromp, 20, Signed as a free agent in 2011; Hitting .300 in 60 AB’s; 0HR 7RBI; 3SB; 7%bb/18% k rates. 18 games in the OF with 1 error. Tromp has played well when given the playing time.
GCL

Nick Ferdinand, 23, Phils 35thround pick in 2013 draft; Hitting .289 with 1HR 7RBI in 45 AB’s. 11 games in the OF without an error; 2 OF assists.
Steven Golden, 18, Phils 13th round pick in 2012 draft; Hitting .174 with 0HR 1RBI in 46 AB’s. 13 games in the OF with 1 error; 1 OF assist.
Johnathan Knight, 20, Phils 49th round pick in 2011 draft; Hitting .100 with 1HR and 2RBI in 30 AB’s. 14 games in the OF without an error, 2 OF assists.
Jose Pujols, 17, Hitting .134 with 2HR and 5RBI in 67 AB’s; 11%bb/25% k rate. 17 games in the OF with 2 errors. (.954); There is no way for .134 to not be disappointing, but still far too early for legitimate concern.
Herlis ROdriguez, 19, Signed as a free agent in 2010; Hitting .417 with 1HR and 6RBI in 24 AB’s. 3 games in the OF without an error.
Cord Sandberg, 18, Phils 3rd round pick in 2013 draft; Hitting .250 with 1 HR and 4RBI in 68 AB’s; 16%bb/27%K rate. 18 games in the OF without an error; 4 assists; Liking that walk rate…
pointer is the only player in system with over 20 doubles and over 20 sb”s. Thats what you look for as a baseball person. Power and Speed and still only 21 years old. He will get plenty of time to figure things out aver wise. Only Altheer can match his numbers 28 doubles and 15 sb’s. You look for power and speed !!

I still show mild optimism for Larry G. Unfortunately, I think most of this stems from where he was drafted. That said, I feel better about him today versus 2 months ago. .131 vs. lefties is obviously concerning, as is the K rate. Come February, one of the first spring training stories that I will want to watch is if he shows up in shape. If not, I will all but write him off from my mind.
