Hot or Not

A look at the time period of July 4-10….Plenty of good hitting around the organization this week…I am getting disproportionately excited over JP Crawford considering he has less than 75 professional AB’s…I will “bite”, Steve Susdorf should be given a shot to be a left handed bat off the Phils bench…Maikel Franco just keeps plugging along…Good to  to see Nic Hanson back from his injury and performing well…Brody Colvin is pretty much an unmitigated disaster at this stage… Mario Hollands needs to be promoted to Reading.

  1. The knock on Asche is his power becaue thirdbase is a “power position” As of now he has 9 HR. In the majors, less than half the league (13 third basemen) have 10 or more homeruns, and of those 13 only 3 of them are hitting above .290. I know Franco is the better prospect but Asche will be a nice major league player. I hope he plays some second in winter ball. They need to re-visit a position change with him. What was his issues defensively at second? Offensively, I know he was terrible at the plate his first year but as we have seen the last two years, he struggles early, then adjusts and takes off.

I’d like to see Robles and Jiminez get shots as September call ups.

Colvin is a mess. He needs a change or scenery. They should try a Golson/Mayberry type swap. Trade him for another struggling minor leaguer who needs a change of scenery.

      1. I guess so… I hate comps like this, all they have in common is that they play 3B. Frazier mashed in the minors and he played all 4 corner spots. If I had to give Asche a fair comp it would be something in between Daniel Murphy and Chase Utley in both being college left handed bats that hit their way to the majors. Frazier had and has much better power than Asche. Each and every player is unique in their own way therefore making most comps insane but hey, it is sure fun to predict the future!

  2. Thoughts on Willie Carmona, he went straight from College to GCL to Lakewood last year, and now has been tearing the cover off the ball. With nearly 500 Low-A at bats, don’t you think he should be nearing a call to Clearwater?

    1. I think he’ll get promoted by August, has some pop but making very solid contact lately, little too old for Lakewood, definitely somewhat prospective though.

    2. I don’t mean to disparage the kid, I hope he succeeds, and I do think he should be promoted soon, but to say he is tearing the cover off the ball is a bit of a stretch His BB%, ISO, and OPS are too low for a corner infielder/DH.
