Box Score Recap – 7/3/2013

Nice line from Perci Garner – 3R on 4H, 2BB, and 8K in 7IP. Kelly Dugan was 2-6 with his 10th HR. Zach Green 3-4, with 2 more doubles. He’s got 14 XBH already this year, in 66 PAs. Yes, he’s striking out too much, but he’s walking some also. Will be interesting to see how his stats look in another month. 3R 5H 1BB and 5K in 6IP for Drew Anderson. He’s a 2012 High School pick, and a guy I’ll be keeping an eye on.

And oh what a day for Jesen Therrien. He recorded just one out, and allowed 6 hits, 1BB and 8 (8!) earned runs. For the day, that’s a 216.00 ERA. It’s said that experience is the cruelest teacher (h/t JDeF). If so, hopefully there’s a lesson for JDT in that third of an inning.

  1. Cam Perkins right back on the horse. Joseph with a Golden Sombrero……….he is obviously not seeing the ball well.

    1. Something must be wrong with Joseph. There’s no way he should be struggling this badly at Clearwater if he was fully healthy.

      1. vision is one of the most lasting effects from a concussion. The headaches and virtigo can fade pretty quickly, but visual acuity, eye tracking, and hand-eye coordination are usually among the last things to clear up. It is quite possible that while the major symptoms have cleared up, he is still struggling to pick up pitches from the hand and track them onto the bat. Just look at Morineau. They should clear up in time, but it can be very frustrating and could require pretty extensive visual training (i know to some that sounds goofy, but there are actual rehab training techniques that focus on nothing but the eyes. Alot of hockey players need these to regain the ability to spot and track a moving puck.) Ok, sorry, med school nerd took over for a bit.

        1. Nothing to apologize about. I think we all appreciate your knowledge when it comes to something that most of us know nothing about. I have always enjoyed your contributions. Keep it up.

      1. Why? I suspect the Phillies have better information regarding his physical condition than anyone posting here. If he’s healthy he needs game time which is what’s happening. Everyone gets way to exercised about the day-to-day boxscore which are mostly meaningless in the minors..

  2. I’m taking my gang to the trenton thunder game – perfect night fireworks for the kids (adults too) and Jesse Biddle on the hill for our Fighting Phil’s. I will provide some post game commentary

  3. Shaking my head at Tommy Joseph. At this point it looks like the Phillies might go with a Rupp/Kratz platton next season and frankly I’d be fine with that. There is a chance Rupp can be a 300-400 AB/year catcher. I don’t want Chooch back at this point, without the adderall he’s not nearly the same hitter.

    1. Scouting reports before the draft said he might get 20 to 30 a year, but he doesn’t have the elite speed for much more.

  4. Interesting that Cesar Hernandez is playing CF in the second game today. Has he ever done that before?

    1. This is a very interesting development, we know he has the speed for it.

      1. My initial reaction is that if he can be 2B/CF that is a major league utility player because your 4th and 5th OF don’t have to play CF

        1. Agreed, it just adds to his potential. I’m sure they can put him in LF much like they did with Galvis, therefore Hernandez could play 2B, SS, 3B, LF, and CF. Very valuable, like a Michael Martinez that can hit.

          1. Not sure he has the arm for 3rd and LF would be only in case of emergency. But 2B/CF is a nice combo to have for a utility guy.

            1. By no means play 3b or lf everyday, but Martinez obviously found a way to play every position but 1B, P, and C. So i’m sure Cesar would be fine, he has a good arm

  5. How could he have let up 8 runs if he walked one and gave up 6 hits? Even if they all scored than that is only 7 and an error would be an unearned run.
