  1. I really liked Rosin going into the season but I must say that he’s even exceeded my expectations. His BB rate continues to decline and he’s giving up less than a hit an inning. That’s a good combination even of the K-rate leaves something to be desired.

Severino – what to say here? I have to admit forgetting about him (or dismissing him) this past off-season but I recall his starts with the VSL last year becoming almost comical. 7 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 ER, 7K was a very common pitching line. But it’s the VSL, right? So he goes from VSL to Clearwater and improves upon last season’s numbers?

I suspect he gets his first start at Clearwater within the next week. He’s only 20 (21 in Sept). Nice job by player development to test him against more advanced hitters. I’m sure it must have crossed their minds to let him start 2013 with the GCL Phils and I suspect that he may have opened a lot of eyes from player development staff during the spring. He pitched this past Tuesday so maybe he gets a start this Sunday? Just a guess as I haven’t seen the Threshers’ starters named for the weekend series. Anyway, I’ll try to make the drive to Brighthouse to get some radar readings provided he is in fact inserted into the rotation

    1. I would imagine that he was dominating hitters at XST which is why they pushed him to Clearwater. A 0.632 WHIP so far which is even better than last year. It’s pretty crazy when a 15/2 SO/K rate is a drop from your previous season (86/6).

I don’t think they’ll rush his as a starter considering 3.2 innings is the most he’s pitched in a game but they are clearly stretching him out. definately an exciting guy to follow. .

      1. I’d guess he starts next week, maybe this Sunday. At some point it just becomes too difficult to find an opportunity for him to pitch 4+ innings while also staying consistent with his pitching schedule.

    2. Not much to go on but I saw this on phillies nation today in regards to Servino.

Severino Gonzalez (1-0, 0.00 ERA through five games), a righty from Panama, is a guy that we’re starting to see in box scores, doing some good things for Clearwater with no runs allowed and 15 strike outs in 12 2/3 innings thus far. What can you tell me about him?

He’s done a great job. We sent him over there, because we had a couple of injuries and we had a guy go up and we needed somebody there to fill in for a while. He came to his first spring training this year. Strike thrower…he throws the ball over the plate. Breaking ball’s gotten better in the past month or so. And he’s somebody that’s just taken advantage of an opportunity. He’s gonna get the ball somewhere. Right now, he’s taking it there, but he’s just ready to pitch and it’s a great story.

      1. Doesn’t appear that Heimueller is all that excited about him. Perhaps the FB is nothing to right home about.

        1. I read it as he is raw and they hoped to keep him in XST longer but needed someone CLW and he has handled it better than expected. He’s 20 years old (at least listed as such) and only 153 lbs so they might be trying to get him stronger which would make sense if he’s just come over to the States for the first time.

I would imagine he has a fastball becuase it would be hard to replicate his KO numbers by relying on breaking stuff that is only starting to improve.

Either wayI would love a scouting report on this guy. I imagine we should get one soon if stays at CLW a little longer.

        2. When you read the entire article on every pitcher he analyzed and how he discusses their strengths and weaknesses, I see it different. I think he is pleasantly surprised with Severino Gonzalez.

  2. Rupp is putting up great numbers and is improving as he goes. 10% walk rate + .240 ISO. .840 OPS with a lowish BABIP. Solid behind the plate as well. Just a solid baseball player that needs more recognition.

  3. I guess Darin Ruf must be ineligible to be listed as “Not Hot” no matter how poorly he hits.

    1. I guess playing 3 games, 2 coming back from a thumb injury mean nothing to you….but then when you don’t like a player all you have are snide remarks to contribute. Thanks for logging on today 🙂

      1. You’re welcome.
If you grade Hot, and not hot, on a curve, that is your prerogative. That wasn’t noted within the article. I just don’t know what the difference is between Ruf’s 13 ABs this past week, and Villalobos’ 12 ABs this week.

    2. Extremely humorous. To be eligible for Hot or Not, you must have 12AB’s over the time period and Ruf did not.

  4. Do you know the reason why Nick Hernandez was put on the Temporary Inactive List, May 28th? I’ve been following this left since he was drafted from Tennessee and long before that in high school. Has the potential to become a great lefty for the Phils.
