Box Score Recap – 5/20/2013

Clearly inspired by my post after his last start, where I said that he needs to throw more groundballs or strike more guys out, Seth Rosin did both last night – 8K and 9GB outs in 8 strong IP. With that in mind, here’s a short list of other things our young prospects should do:

Darin Ruf should run faster.

Sebastian Valle should take some walks.

Larry Greene should only hit homeruns from now on – no more striking out.

Shane Watson should send me a couple hundred bucks out of his signing bonus. Same for Mitch Gueller.

Dylan Cozens should help me out with yardwork. He seems like a big strong guy who could easily toss an old birdbath over the brushline and into the woods across the road.

All of the R-Phils guys should come to my house next week when the team’s in Bowie and we’ll all hang out and maybe do a little BBQ or something, you know, real casual like. Then  we’ll all become best buddies and they can take me on the road with them and we’ll play guitar on the bus together and sing happy songs and chill by the hotel pools in the summer and it’ll be super sweet.

Cameron Perkins should hit for a little more power.

    1. After reading the recap sounds like it was over the wall. Isn’t this like Quinn’s 3rd lefty HR. Also he’s really starting to come alive at the plate now.

        1. Quinn has twice as many HR as Lakewood’s three regular outfielders (Greene, Pointer and Tocci) combined (4 to 2). I’m going to be a glass-half-full guy on this one.

  1. Hmmph…gonna miss Biddle next week – he should go Sunday vs. Harrisburg and not again until they’re past Bowie. Guess I will aim for Wright on Wednesday or Rosin on Thursday. WHO’S COMING WITH ME????!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Also Kevin Gausman pitches Monday, I think. So that stinks as well.

Devin Jones (Baltimore #18) should pitch Wednesday, so him vs. Wright (theoretically), if anyone wants to go compare #18s. I might still prefer to go see Rosin.

    1. Kevin Gausman was just promoted, so you wouldn’t see him anyway. HS rival of Phillies’ Kevin Walter. Gausman has Graduated AA, before Walter gets to Low A. That’s gotta sting a little.

      1. Big difference in skill level. Gausman out of LSU was 4th overall pick a few years ago.

  2. Jesse is pitching today (Tuesday), so it’s highly unlikely he’d go Sunday. Too soon, especially as he recovers from whooping cough.

    1. So even if they give him 5 days off like they did this turn, that’d be Monday. Still in Harrisburg, which doesn’t help me see him in Bowie. Still bummed.

  3. Maybe we should take bets on who will hit a HR first: Hewitt or Greene Jr. My money’s on Cozens. Wait… he wasn’t a choice… was he?

  4. Also, I can’t believe I missed a chance to mention Cameron Rupp’s sixth HR of the year. His walk rate remains decent at 9.2% after a 10.3% last year. Ks are high for him compared to 2012, but not by much – up to 21.0% from 19.8%. It’s still a little early to read much into those fluctuations. He’s been hitting a lot of groundballs and less line drives than prior years, pulling his BABIP way down to .243, after settling at a fairly normal .319 last year. Hopefully the line drives will come, and he isn’t being exposed by the better breaking balls in AA.

  5. I’m excited to see that Walding has turned it around. Last year, he started fast but then faded and never turned it around while he started fast this year also and faded again. Only now, he’s turned it around and is hitting again. That’s very encouraging. Quinn has done a full 180 and looks great right now, except for those pesky errors. Rosin and Rupp both looking like future major leaguers, in some capacity.

  6. oh baby you , you got what i need but you say he’s justin friend ,

yeah i dont know , it just popped into my head , awesome to see Walding is not content with just a hot start but a good year , when does Cozens come up anyway , and Im not sure Larry Greene ever hits a home run again , although does it count if it goes through the wall and not over it

    1. Man I hope he succeeds, because it will be cool to begin every report about him with that little blurb!

  7. Tyler Cloyd should merge with Ethan Martin to form one awesome prospect that throws hard and has great command.

Darin Ruf should be 5 years younger.

    1. Cesar Hernandez should hit like Cody Asche.
Cody Asche should run like Tyson Gillies.
