Aaron Altherr came back from the “Whatever that’s called that’s not the disabled list” List on Thursday, after recovering from what I’m guessing was a concussion related to his collision last week. He had an interesting night – 1-5 with a triple and 4Ks. He’s hit in 12 straight, wrapped around that “Listing”, but on the downside, he’s got one more K in May than he did in April, and there’s still a week and a half left. A bit of a flag to watch out for on him.
Elsewhere, Nic Hanson (I’m not the only one who thinks he omits the “k” from his first name, right?), struck out 9 of the 24 men he faced in 5 2/3 innings, though he allowed 7 hits and 4 runs. The hits and runs aren’t great, but that’s a lot of Ks, regardless.

the only guy hitting in Reading is a non prospect. Walding showing a pulse…but its thready and faint. Also, I would keep Franco with current group in Clearwater and move that group up together late this year or to start next year.

What is up with Walding? He has a fantastic first week and then he struggles through the rest of the year, well thats what happened did last season , well thats unfair he didnt struggle the whole time but he always gets my hopes up high and then plays like a 4 out 8 player

I don’t think Ruf has a hit since we started talking about bringing him up last week. Did we Jinx him?

Fragile pysche affecting Valle this year?
“It has been a little bit difficult,” Valle said during a recent interview at Reading. “I was getting ready to play and then they sent me here. They told me I’d play every day and I don’t play every day. It’s a little bit difficult, but I’m trying to make the adjustment and get ready. I did feel a little bit confusion because I played triple A last year and I come back to double A.”

Phillies Farm system is the weakest farm system in the history of professional baseball.

Nah, the stros had had worse a few years back

Farm systems worst then the Phillies include but are not limited too the Angels, White Sox, Brewers, Giants, Tigers, Braves (Tehran graduated), and Blue Jays.
The constant pessimism is idiotic. No the farm system isn’t good and I am not going to pretend it is. Right now without making any homer arguments you have 2 LHPs with solid starting pitcher floors (Morgan and Biddle), a good looking third baseman (Franco), some AAA guys who will play in the majors (Martin, Asche, Ruf, Hernandez), and some guys with potential in the minors. That is not counting that it has already delivered a major league starter and what should be two solid relievers (Aumont and DeFratus)

I swear man people think this team should have a stacked system. I have no problem trading prospects if theyre for the right players. IE Roy Halladay (not Hunter Pence). Looking back you can say about 75% of the prospects over the past 5 years are not even getting close to their ceiling. Hosmer, Moustakas, Smoak, Alvarez, Drabek, Montero… “cant miss” prospects. For every Mike Trout theres 4 Brandon Woods.
In response to the uneducated comment earlier, a team with 2 legitimate top 100 prospects in Biddle and Franco is not even the bottom 5 in the league right now.

Agree Bob……look the Angels low-balled Matt Harvey in 2007 in the 3rd round….do you think they regret that now. All teams make mistakes and go periods of slumps, just like the player.

Matt, Don’t let him get to you. He’s just trying to get your dander up. I think it’s fine to respond to the idiot but no need to prove your case. At least, he has a handle. If he makes any other stupid comments with that handle, you can pass it right over. Or maybe create a code word or phrase like rumplestiltskin or “Isn’t it a lovely day on the moon.” That’s all that has to be said.

Sure the braves are weak now but they just pulled up guys who the we would kill to have , simmons , teherahan , and freddy freeman is really young as well , the angels just graduated , trumbo and trout , the rest of those teams I agree 100%, and yes the phillies system isnt top 10 but it is not that bad. Im with you and wish people would stop the pessimism

And guess what Sam…..one draft can make a difference, this draft could bolster with the 16th and mid-forty picks.

Perkins has no hits in his last 4 games (0-9) with 5 walks. In his last 3 games he’s doubled his season walk total.

I think teams have finally gotten smart. They don’t want to throw too many pitches over the plate (ergo the BBs). He only has 1 K in those 4 games. He’s had a number of flyouts and ground outs so he’s hitting the ball. He also had a 2nd inning SAC bunt in one game. He must have been bunting for a base hit and it ended in a sacrifice. Otherwise, why would you bunt in the 2nd inning with your best hitter up and Franco on base? I know Franco is not fleet-a-foot but a DP in the 2nd inning isn’t going to lose a game.

If the Phillies DL Howard, Ruf may be on his way up in a few days..

It would help Ruf’s case if he weren’t in 0 for 15 in his last 4 games. On the other hand, Pettibone was awful in AAA, got called up and has been amazing.
