Matt Gelb is reporting that Domonic Brown has been scratched from the Lehigh Valley lineup today and will be called up to the Phillies. This, of course, adds to increased speculation that Shane Victorino will be a Dodger by 4pm today, if not sooner.
Stay tuned for updates…

Lindblom hs allowed 38% of inherited runners to score, is on a contender who is willing to trade him, has a high BB/9 highest HR/9 for all RP so he will fit right in!

38 percent is actually better than pretty much everyone else in the bullpen this year, lol.

LOL thats why I said he will fit right in, I do like his Arm and maybe it was the pressure of pitching in 7th and 8th trying to win. Who knows how it will work out!

My bad, read it too quickly. However, looking at his stats, I would really hope he isn’t part of the trade. The Phillies have enough guys like him in the system already (defensively challenged, AAAA types). Remember, his numbers come from the PCL so need to be greatly discounted. I would hope they could do much better.

Hearing that the Phils – Orioles trade for Blanton is gaining momentum and complexity. Looks like the Phils will send Blanton and a minor leaguer to the Orioles for Schoop. The challenge to this deal is that the O’s top 2 prospects are too good in exchange for Blanton, Schoop is their #3 and the Phils and scouts really like him but the O’s won’t give him up for Blanton even if the Phils pay all of Blanton’s salary. The O’s #4 prospect is a 3B in Low A ball who is having a bad year, and their 4 and 5 prospects are pitchers who have arm injuries, so not an option. Most of their prospects in the 6-10 range are either low cieling guys or Low A ball guys playing in Delmarva. So looks like the way the Phils get Schoop is to throw in a prospect and probably pay part of Joe B’s salary.
LikeLike
Considering I would rank him probably Top 5 in our if not Top 3 I would give up anyone outside the Top 20 to make this deal happen. Outside of someone on their major league roster I wouldn’t be too interested in anyone in the Orioles system if the Philles are paying Blanton’s salary.

Sorry for the Blanton thing in the Dom thread, but back on topic….I’m really looking forward to seeing Domonic Brown play in the big leagues. Assuming Pence and others stay through the deadline, I’d really like to see Charlie plug Domonic into the #2 hole in the lineup but my guess is he’ll bat him 7th or 8th. Hitters tend to see better pitches to hit in the 2 hole vs the 7 or 8 hole but we’ll see. Either way, I hope to see him play everyday vs RHP and get some looks against the non-nasty LHP’s of the NL. Should be very interesting.
As for Lindblom, I suspect he is in the same grouping of the Stutes and JDF’s of the world, which I think is a nice addition. Hopefully the minor leaguer coming is a decent prospect.

maybe he will bat second, unless they keep pierre.

I don’t see Pierre playing much even if they keep him, which is unlikely. I presume Mayberry will probably platoon in CF the remainder of the year with Pridie or Mini Mart, with Mayberry getting the bulk of the time. I think they will play Brown in LF every day and I can’t see Pierre with that arm playing CF at all, even if the games don’t matter much at this point.

Looks like SF is picking up the bulk of the salary in the Pence deal for this year, which will allow the Phils to send $ and a mid range prospect to Baltimore with Blanton to get Schoop. I agree, if they can’t work out the prospects to make the Phils pick up the money I can see an almost straight salary dump with the Phils getting very little (which wouldn’t be a loss just not as much as a win). Ethan Martin: a righthander with great stuff and questionable command/mechanics. He’ll fit right in at the top of the Reading rotation with May and Colvin.
Just spitballing here, but I wonder if this is a prelude to packaging either him or May in a deal for someone like Chase Headley. You could see the thinking, if Amaro had a deal in place for Headley that involved May, that he would want to get back a similar arm.

That makes no sense to me, unless they’re really convinced they’re going to let Chooch walk at the end of this contract. Or … it’s a prelude to trying to move Howard at some later date. I realize that sounds absurd, but then again, the Jays got someone to talk Vernon Wells, so anything is possible. Howard might make sense down the line for a team that has limitless resources and wants to upgrade at DH, like the Yankees.
Of course, that whole wild theory is premised on a completely unconfirmed report.

Andrew, there was a rumor about a year ago that the Milwaukee Brewers would be interested in Ryan Howard if the Phillies paid part of his salary. From MLBTradeRumors.com
3:59am: The Diamondbacks are trying to swing a blockbuster for an unknown ace starting pitcher, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. One rival executive “received indications that the Phillies and Diamondbacks had discussed a deal involving Cliff Lee and Justin Upton,” but that scenario is unconfirmed and it is not known whether the D’Backs are among the 21 teams to which Lee can block a trade. Plus, Kevin Towers and company would need serious assistance covering the $95.1MM guaranteed to the Phillies’ lefty through 2015.

I would describe that as a good trade for an outfielder who has 1/3 of a year left on his contract and who would not have been tendered after the season was over. In the offseason, Bourn will probably be their first target, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they signed Vic back on a 2 year deal with a third option year or just a one year contract.

A few comments.
First, can anyone remember the last time that our top 30 prospects looked demonstrably BETTER after the trade deadline? This sure is different.
Second, Nate Schierholtz looks to join the Roy Hinson school of mediocre players acquired primarily because they kicked the ass of the Philadelphia team acquiring them
Third, Tommy Joseph may be 21, but, good God, his MiLB.com picture makes him look as old as Ty Wigginton.

I get the Victorino trade complete but, honestly, if the goal is to contend next year, I don’t understand the Pence trade. Now they really have to acquire another outfielder who can hit. Who will that be? Do you think it will be someone who hits better than Pence? I doubt it. They can easily afford him at $14 million next year and would have received a pick had they decided to let him go after 2013.
Now, if Tommy Joseph is really a stud, it lessens the impact of the trade quite a bit (I am assuming he is in the trade), but what does the outfield look like in 2013? Perhaps this is just a play to acquire players to obtain Chase Headley (a good player to be sure, but doesn’t he seem ridiculously over-hyped?). Who knows?
Well, at least they didn’t trade Lee (at least not yet).

The good thing about Headley is that his OPS on the road is way better than his home OPS, both this year and for his career. I still think some posters here have overrated him, but leaving Petco would probably do him good.

I think Nate Schierholtz is the kind of guy that Pat Gillick would acquire. A fairly young, talented player who hasn’t been given a full opportunity by his current team, and hitting in a very pitcher friendly park. I really believe his upside is better than a 4th OF, I think he could be a great defensive OF who could easily hit 6th or 7th in our batting order and drive the ball at CBP. If Tommy Joseph can play 3B, that would be amazing, but I think we have to wait and see what the plans are for him with the Phils. Hearing mixed reports on what positions he can and can’t play.
