Reposting with the screenshots now. Can I just say that Albert Cartwright is feelin’ it at the plate right now. 15 hits in 10 games, 8 for extra bases, (including 3 doubles yesterday). He’s a 24-yr old in A+, so I’m not calling him a prospect, but impressive stats nonetheless.

WPT wins 11-8. I was able to watch this game on Milb.com
Quinn 1-6, r, 3b, k. Tripled down the RF in the first, and hit another really hard liner to first that would have been another double/triple if there wasn’t someone being held on first.
Numata 1-5, r, 3b, bb, k. Absolutely crushed his triple off the RF wall, has solid legs for a C. Blocked the plate well, but wasn’t close on the throw in the one SB attempt, would have had him. Switch hitter, seemed to have better swing from the left.
Perkins 1-4, 2r, 3b, bb, hbp, k. His triple was a RCF gapper, wasn’t hit all that hard though. Put pretty good contact the rest of his ABs. Doesn’t wear batting gloves…odd.
Serritella 1-5, 2b, rbi, 2rbi, hbp. Just looks like he knows what he is doing out there, can tell he is older than peers. His 2b should have been caught by the CF.
Walding 2-5, r, rbi. Also looks good at the plate, went other way for his first hit into LF. Didn’t see his 2nd hit. Fouled off several pitches.
L Greene 3-4, 2r, hbp. Didn’t see his first single, second single was grounder that 2b should have gotten. 3rd single was hit hard between 1st and 2nd.
Pointer 2-4, 2r, 2hr, 6rbi, bb. Absolutely crushed both of the HRs. Salami was to dead center, 2r blast was to right.
Ford 1-3, 2b, 2bb. Generally didn’t watch his ABs much, sorry.
Taylor 2-4, 2b, bb, k. Hit his double hard to the LCF alley. Like Seritella, can kinda tell he is a bit older than competition.
Warner 5ip, 6h, 4r, 3bb, 6k, 1hr. He looked better than his stat line. Velocity was mostly 90-91 from what announcers reported. Had pretty solid curve, and decent change. Compact delivery, 3/4 arm slot, steps a bit to 3b and comes across the body. Only two balls hit hard were a 2b and HR from a 22-year old college kid that is crushing the entire NYP league. Rest of hits were flare-jobs. Had 3bb, but was around the plate and did not appear to really be wild.
Didn’t pay attention to the relievers, sorry.

Birmingham left the game due to injury but I didn’t see or hear what it was. Strange game when you have back to back to back triples plus it had to be a little tough on Warner as he had to sit for extended time due to all the hits/walks/hit batters.
Walding looks like he’s going to be a good one, can’t wait to see how he progresses over the next few years.

Also as an FYI the Crosscutters game is on Milb.tv again tonight at 7.

Rupp continues to hit the ball very well. His CS% is very good but he continues to be blocked by Valle. He’s two years older than Valle and there is not much chance he splits time with him (except in the last couple of weeks of the season or if there is an injury). If Valle is held back in AA next year, it will be interesting to see what they do with Rupp. It’s a nice problem to have.

I cant imagine Valle gets held back next year unless he takes a significant downturn during the last two months. I think it is Valle/Kratz in LV; Rupp in Reading and Lino in Clearwater

Where does Josh Ludy go?

Ludy is already DH and splitting time in LWD. I think he is viewed as more of an org type of guy unless he really becomes a masher. I would imagine he would be in CLW as well, playing some DH and backup C.

Reminds me of what Rupp’s did last season. Struggled for awhile in the beginning then figured it out in the second half. He’s shown more power this year; hopefully he keeps getting his average and OBP up.

I dont know about others but I had terrible Anthony Hewitt nightmares when they drafted Larry Greene Jr.. I dont personally care if the 2nd basemen could have made the play on 1 single, 3 base knocks is awesome to see. Phils will definitely have a good 3 year drought with young position players from the trades they made, but there are definitely some guys to be optimistic about in Williamsport, particularly. All the reason more to sign Cole!!!!!!!!!!!

@bellman because of Rupp, Id be very surprised if Valle didnt move to LHV next year. Its not like hes batting .220 in Reading.

I’ve heard from a few friends in Clearwater that Cozzens really looks the part but also got the impression he is a bit cocky. In some cases that can be a good thing.
We’ve discussed this a while back and it now it seems to have main stream media legs a Hamels for Olt trade. How cool would it be if they pulled that off then signed Cole after the season.
LikeLike
Add in Roughned Odor and I’d call it a deal!

I will guess that any prospect trade for Hamels will be weaker that Olt, unless the team is getting a Hamels contract extention at the same time. Otherwise, you’re trading Mike Olt for 2 months of Hamels and getting no draft pick comp in return. You’d have to be pretty convinced Hamels was going to give you a serious chance to win a WS you otherwise would not win, or be pretty convinced Mike Olt will never stick as a big league glove at 3b.
LikeLike
They seem pretty adamant about not trading Profar or Olt. I think a package would probably look like Martin Perez or Leonys Martin as a centerpiece. Then probably one of Buckel/ Scheppers/ Grimm and Odor or Villanueva. Personally I really want Odor included in any deal. He’s a huge sleeper who’s only 18 and has shown power in the Sally. Naturally a SS has been playing 2B because Profar is the gem of the system.
LikeLike
Hamels would be worth 2 comp picks that would probably immediately rank as high as Perez in the org rankings and for sure higher than Leonys Martin. This is what isnt being understood. If a blue chip prospect isnt in the deal they arent getting Hamels.

So how blue must this blue chipper be? Top 25? I would be a less surprised if some team with two guys in the 1-25 range was willing to part with the lower of the two. Not sure who that might be, and obviously the orgs rank guys independently of any media lists, so Amaro and Co. may really like a guy who’s #35 or soemthing on media lists.

I question your ability to judge minor league prospects with this statement. Those picks would be in the 30-40 range. Perez (who I actually don’t like) and Martin (who I like a lot) have been in most top 75 rankings of the entire minor leagues. But somehow, two guys we just get in the 30-40 range *of one particular year* are going to jump into the top 100? Do all first and comp round picks of every year make the top 100, or just ours?
Martin, right now, would be the best hitting prospect in our organization, by a pretty fair margin.
I think we need more than Martin/Perez for Hamels as well, but your comment was, at best, silly.

I agree with your statement about comp picks not making it into the elite level of prospects overnight. But do you really think a top 75 guy is going to get you Hamels? Maybe with others he would.

Looking into BA top 100, I see Martin is 79 and Perez was 31 and both are MLB ready. I would be surprised if the Rangers did a deal for both guys plus a throw-in for Hamels without a new contract. Last year, with comp picks coming to them if he doesn’t resign, yes. This year, that seems steep.

In a vacuum Hamels for Olt certainly is better for the Phillies on balance. But if you manage to establish a bidding war, catch a team desperate for an ace, the Phillies could certainly land more than Hamels value in this market.

Cesar Hernandez has really evolved as a prospect this season. Walking less, stealing less often, but hitting with far more power. I’m finding it difficult to come up with a comparable player. He’s sort of like a (very) poor man’s Lou Whitaker, or a better version of Wally Backman. Mickey Morandini might be a reasonable comp.

You might be able to be more optimistic. Look at Robinson Cano’s minor league career numbers. I was very surprised to see numbers that never really suggested he’d be the type of pro that he is now. Cano broke in at age 22.
Am by no means saying Cesar is the next Cano just found it interesting that Cano’s pro career in many facets exceeds his minor league career.

Is Cesar H 6’3? With room to put on more muscle?

That Cano exceeded his minor league numbers doesn’t really tell much. Many minor league players produce mediocre numbers. 99% of them don’t become All Stars.

Correct, though I would add some nuance.
Younger players who rocket through the system – like Cano – fairly often exceed their minor league numbers for a reason that should be obvious – they hit the majors while they still have room for growth as players. Still not usually, but a lot more than 1%. Cesar is also moving fairly quickly through the system, but not to the extent that Cano did. So on that level it’s not the best analogy.
But Hernandez is young enough that he could develop further. And he has to if he’s going to be a major league regular. But here’s hoping.

I agree on all counts. You can correct me if I’m wrong but one of the things I like to do is go back and look at a young MLB player who is having success in the big leagues and see what his minor league career was like.
Its rare to find an all-star that struggled at any level of the minors (position players) mind you.

Many all-stars have had mediocre seasons when double jumped at a young age. I don’t think Cesar is a future all-star, but it does happen.

I would have to assume with Colvin appearing to be back on track that they push him up to Reading towards the end of the month to at least get his feet wet to start there next year. There is certainly room to put him there and I think he is ready if he can keep his head on straight and it would be a nice confidence boost plus put him back with the guys he has been moving through the levels with.
On a whole I expect nobody to really get moved up or down until they make a decision on whether they are selling or staying where they are (I can’t imagine they buy but I can see them hanging onto some pieces to just wait and see). I would expect after that there will be plenty of moving especially in AA/AAA has they move up some guys that might have a chance to make it up at some point in 2013.

Agreed on Colvin. Here’s a question: do you think May and Pettibone will be in Reading to start next season as well? Or do they get moved up to LHV despite so-so results?

If the season ended today, I would imagine May would return and JP would move up. If May can lower his BB a bit and stop giving up so many HR, he can make a push to move up as well.

21 games into Williamsport’s season, taking my first real look at the stats.
Larry Greene has really shown something. Having real baseball skill at the plate beyond power was a concern. He’s shown he’s not helpless in the slightest. Lack of home runs isn’t concerning considering the environment. As long as he shows doubles power he is fine.
Chris Serritella is going to see Lakewood by mid-August. He has four home runs already. The last time a Crosscutter hit more than five was 2009.
Mitch Walding I’m taking a more of a wait and see approach on. A great deal of his value is batting average, want to see how that sorts out in more at bats.
Josh Warner is the only Cutter to pile up ERA qualifying innings thus far. He might be a sleeper candidate this offseason.

Garner with a nice start. 4 of the 5 strikeouts were swinging and from reading the play-by-play it sounds like there were only three line drives to the outfield. Other hits were on ground balls. Garner continues to generate lots of ground balls, with nine ground ball outs compared to four air outs.
He will probably be a reliever after all is said and done, but I am not ready to give up on him as a starter yet.

He was supposed to have two plus pitches when drafted, with a 3rd pitch that was average. He absolutely still profiles as a starter. We should also be aware that prior to this year, he had like 40 total innings of professional ball, and was double jumped to A+. He is still very raw.
I’m pretty sure I remember seeing that two of his hits given up were bunt hits, as well.

Big college bat. Unfortunately, most mid-late round college bats end up as org filler, and due to his late signing it appears that is his current slot, as a mentor-type for GCL. Unfortunately, he is kinda blocked by Seritella at 1B and about 6 guys at 3B. Right now, however, GCL needs a big bat in the middle to take pressure off of Cozens, Green, Pullin, and the various international guys lagging behind.
