Box Score Recap 6-16-2012

Bunch of Threshers in the FSL All-Star Game, so check that out.  Aside from that, Justin Friend lowers his ERA to below 4.0.  Wait, I meant, below 0.4.  Goodness.

    1. I believe the org has a roster decision to make on Castro in the off-season. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong

      1. Yes. He is eligible for rule 5. They have to protect him on the 40 man. He was eligible last year, but didn’t get picked. Collier, Castro, James and Hewitt are rule 5 eligible this year.

          1. Kinda depends on whether or not Collier can keep this up for the rest of the season, but at this point I’d still rather protect James. He would at least have some value as a defensive replacement, I don’t know if Collier would or not.

          2. No one is going to claim Collier. They’d have to stash him on the 25-man for the entire year. NOT HAPPENING.

        1. James and Hewitt were eligible last time also. But, Don’t see a reason a team would claim any of the mentioned players to keep them on the active roster for, basically , the entire season, so I think that’s mostly a theoretical question.

    2. Sad indictment of the system that a 764 OPS and a 37/6 K/BB rate merits a “flat out hits” designation. Castro’s a nice player, but he’s got a long way to go in Reading.

    3. He has six walks and 4 HRs in 231 plate appearances. He does not flat out hit, unless by “flat out” you mean “with little plate discipline or power.”

  1. Wow, Lisalberto. Has anyone been able to confirm if LB would move to the rotation in the 2nd half? I would love to see that, but at the same time, I almost don’t want to mess up a good thing. Out of the bullpen in June, 11IP, 4H, 0BB, 13K. Kind of numbers that make you giggle like a school girl (or perhaps that only happens to me)

    1. You are not alone. I can’t understand why they would permanently move him to the bullpen when he’s had nothing but success as a starter, so hopefully they make the switch soon. But I guess if he does stay as a reliever he could be in Philly pretty soon.

  2. Juan Morillo is certainly a prospect. But it has to be depressing to be a minor league manager to have to use a pitcher you absolutely can not depend upon.

    1. He should get moved to EST to work on his command. He has been awful but at the same time, he actually could help the Phillies out if he figures things out.

  3. I was at Reading and got to see Game 1 last night. A few thoughts:

    1. David Buchanon looked and pitched exactly like Kyle Kendrick. He has a hitch in his delivery and looks very jerky and not smooth. Nothing pith wise June’s out at you and he had a lot of Base runners 4 out of the 5 innings he pitched.

    2. Cesar Herbandez tried to bunt his way on his first time up but was out by a hair. Speedy guy and made the routine defensive plays.

    3. Sebastian Valle needs a lot of work offensively. He swung at everything in a mile radius of the plate. His swing mechanics looked poor as well and his eyes were taken off the ball early on in his load. He also made a poor throw to nail a base runner at second. He did hit a dribbler into shallow of but a better defensive SS or 2B would gobble it up.

    4. Best bat far and away was Darin Ruf. Scalds the ball every time he hits it. He hit an absolute bomb that left the park entirely and also hit a screaming single to opposite field.

    1. Another note o the pitching yesterday. It looked like the gun was acting funny, but neither pitcher looked like they threw anything above 90.

    1. Not to question Collier’s sincerity but MLB players abuse adderall all of the time, to gain competitive advantage.

      1. Hopefully Dickie Noles sees through anything that would look and appear like that, and can steer Zach Collier in the correct direction when it comes to his ADHD issue.

  4. Biddle with a crazy inning in the All-Star Game: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 SO, 0 R. That’s giving them their money’s worth.

  5. Was at the FSL All-star game last night…liked what I saw from all the Threshers guys. Knigge had some control issues but was 94-97 on the gun. Would not be surprised if that was a few ticks high, since a Lakeland pitcher named Bruce Rondon followed Knigge by hitting 101 multiple times.

  6. I have seen a lot of pitchers in my time, and i never remember , i mean ever seen a lefthand pitcher who didnt have natural movement on his pitches, that straight fastball talk to me is bull.

  7. what do you guts think is the phillies plan for Darin Ruf and why haven’t they given him a chance. also when can the phillies make international signings.

    1. They have goven Ruf as much of a chance as they can right now with Overbeck in front of him.

    1. I’m going to hope they’re saving his arm for a call-up to take Kendrick’s spot in the rotation.

On another note, Bonilla+Friend. DO WANT.

  8. I’m hoping the Phils claim Lidge off waivers from the Nats. I don’t know how much longer I can stand Qualls.

    1. Seriously? Have you looked at Lidge’s stats?

I don’t feel like double checking but I think he’s Walked 11 batters and Struck out 10 with a 9.00 + ERA… don’t even want to know what his WHIP is.
