Contreras is down, probably for a long time or possibly permanently. That’s terrible for him, but in the meantime, who’s our righthanded relief call up? Schwimer is on the 40 man but Rosenberg has put up better numbers this year. If this was a last guy in the pen type situation, I’d say it’d be Schwimer for sure, but the left-handedness of our pen means whoever gets called up is going to be pitching some important innings. Discuss.
Yeah this moves Qualls back to the later innings and we need someone to help us get by until we get Stutes and DeFratus back hopefully. I’d have to guess it’s Rosenberg or Bush, prob Rosenberg
What about Brummett for the dark horse call to the phillies pen? He’s put up some great numbers at LHV and actually has better numbers across the board compared to Schwimer and Rosenberg.
Whip at 0.77 compared to Rosenburg 1.39 and Schwim at 1.20 , his K/ BB is outstanding as well 2 walks to 21 strikeouts also better than berg at 6/22 and schwim 5/19 he’s also pitched 4 innings less than either of the two. Just saying he might be an option.
Cheese he just started to pitch well. Not much chance but I would luv to see Cisco as a guy who can go more than 1 inning.
Aaron Altherr 0fer4 but three runs scored.
If the Phillies are desperate enough to bring Schwimer back, they are in trouble. What’s the point of signing major league pitchers like Bush and Elerton for depth, if you are going to keep running batting practice pitchers, like Schwimer, out there.
If Schwimmer is the long/mop up man what is the problem? The Phillies have to find out Joe Blanton’s and Vance Worley’s statuses before making a decision on the starters to bring up. At the very least I would expect Dave Bush to take Halladay’s spot and maybe Cloyd/Elarton would cover for Blanton or Worley.
Really amazing how as baseball season progresses, the high number of casualties. And players these days take better care of themselves in the off-season. Maybe baseball should look into increrasing the regular season 25-man roster number.
I was interested to see Michael Martinez at 2nd base. He played mostly 2nd in the Nationals organization, but I thought the Phillies like him as a shortstop, or at least as a utility infielder who can play shortstop well. When his rehab stint is over, I’d like to see him settle in at Lehigh Valley as their SS until the end of the season.
Call me crazy, but this team wouldn’t spent five million bucks to upgrade from KK to Roy friggin’ Oswalt. I don’t think they’re gonna spend twenty+ on a Cuban teenager.
I would agree, but not for the reasons listed. The Phillies usually spread their minor league money out across multiple players and avoid the ‘it’ guys like Soler.
The difference is that that this is not against the luxury tax, so it is not as simple. That and the Phils may not believe in Oswalt to stay healthy or be effective. They were talks before I can’t imagine they would disappear. I don’t think they get him but they will give it an honest effort.
Getting Soler would go a long way towards rebuilding a very thin farm. Given Victorino’s impending departure, it would also be helpful with planning for 2013.
Not really my argument. 20 million is more than the bonuses given out to Bryce Harper or Steven Strasburg; is anyone out there saying Soler is a better prospect than those two? The Phillies have shown a willingness to spend for the right players. Soler might be the right player, or he might just be a flashy name to throw to a fanbase hungry for glamor in the farm system. I’m hopeful they’ll make the right choice.
I would promote Cloyd. He deserves a shot and has been consistently good even when he loses. They really need someone for longer outings when Blanton blows up early. Otherwise Rosenberg.
Knowing Jim Thome was at Clearwater, I imagine that those boys never ever saw as good a post – game spread.

I’d think Bush would get the call and Savery/Valdes would fall into more 6th/7th inning roles.
Then you have Diekman/Qualls in the 7th for matchups lefty/righties and Bastardo in the 8th.

He’s got to be on the radar at least. I don’t know much about how good his stuff is or isn’t though. By the numbers he’s probably earned a look.

There was more protection for Thome in the Clearwater lineup then there is in Philly.

40 roster spots getting iffy as Worley is coming back. How bad is Nix? (60 day?). Conteras released?

I’m assuming they’ll just bring Schwimer back unless they want to keep Bush around.

That would cost more money so I doubt that they would do it.

You wish. When his rehab stint is over, he’ll be taking #peteorrfacts’ 25-man roster spot. Viva la MiniMart!
