A look back at the time period of 5/23 thru 5/29. Quick points:
–I watched David Buchanan throw an impressive CG shutout Monday in Harrisburg where he kept the Senators extremely off balance.
–Another week where it is a good thing to be named “Cody”.
—Leandro Castro has really been hitting over the last several weeks, while Tyson Gillies’ week was limited by his wrist injury.
—I have to give some “pub” to Troy Hanzawa. He has come out of nowhere this year and has hit as consistently as just about anyone in the organization, while continuing to show the slick fielding he has in the past.
–Another “out of nowehere” name is Tyson Brummett, who was named Phils Minor League Pitcher of the Week last week. He is putting up huge strikeout numbers at AAA this year after several years appearing extremely pedestrian.
–Hot Hitters: Tyson Gillies (.500, 3R 1HR 5RBI); Leandro Castro (.458, 5R 1HR 2RBI); Troy Hanzawa (.389, 5R); Cody Asche (.381); Anthony Hewitt (.368); Cody Overbeck (.360, 3R 1HR 5 RBI); Kelly Dugan (.321, 5R 2HR 4 RBI); Darin Ruf (.304, 5R 2HR 4RBI)

Seeing Hewitt’s name on the hot list is really starting to get me excited about his future!!!
Ok, not really. He’s still a strikeout machine but congrats the the young man for at least showing some signs of life.

He’s up… he’s down… he’s up again. Hewitt just wants to get on Gregg’s list… somewhere. Two weeks ago he was on the hot list. A week ago he was on the not hot list. I’m starting to get motion sickness from the roller coaster ride.

Of the names on the list I am most excited about the two CLW pitchers. Biddle has bounced back nicely from a bad start and is working on proving that he is the #1 prospect in the system. Morgan is putting up huge strikeout numbers and is close to leading the minors, he has been doing it while walking very few. I would love to see him get pushed to Reading towards the end of the season, he probably has #3 upside and looks like he may be a left handed version of Worley or a little better.

I believe Biddle has surpassed May if we were to do end of May prospect rankings. I believe May will continue to improve over the year, but Biddle has been very, very impressive with his numbers and for his age at that level, not to mention being a LHP.

Agree about biddle, but i’m not sure i believe in your last point. (not to nit pick…) about the fact that him being left handed makes him more valuable. Yes it’s true a lefty can get away with lower velo but results at his age are where his value is.

Sorry it was a lazy comp. What made me think of it was they are both third round picks as college juniors. Morgan sits about 1-2mph lower than Worley. They have high end #3 upside and will move/moved quickly through the minors. However Morgans K numbers are way better than Worleys (though Worley went to AA in his first full season).

Based on the fact that Trevor May struggled mightily, in the FSL, at the same stage of development and age that Jesse Biddle is now succeeding. I would say that Biddle has definitely passed May. May had to be demoted, then repeat A+ again, to progress. Biddle should be in his sophomore year at Oregon, and he is already on his way to AA.

That’s one way to look at it, but we also have to consider the likelihood that Biddle, in two years, will be as good as May is now. May is still more of a “sure thing” because of his proximity. It depends how much weight you give to those factors.

Josh Warner is on the not hot list but I’m intrigued by him as a prospect. An Aussie with a good pitcher’s frame, 6’3″, 185. He was very up and down in the GCL last year but ended up with a pretty impressive K-BB ratio.
He’s still only 19, which is a little young for Lakewood, and being from Australia you figure he was behind the development curve to start with. I’d love to hear about what he throws if anyone has a clue.

Pretty obvious the Phils think highly enough about him to throw him a bone from Extended Spring when they needed an emergency starter.

The not hot list hitters looks like the entire Lakewood lineup. Is it just me or does Lakewood seem to find new ways yo lose every day? Reminds me of the Mets from the last few years.

Not sure if this was already posted, but I see that Hyatt has been demoted to AA.

Domonic with the first jack of the night… he’ll be on this list soon enough. I said it the other day, get that home run out of the way and he’ll go on a tear.
