A miserable week for Lehigh Valley who have fallen to 28-23, after a 1-5 week and are now in 4th place of the Northern DIvision of the International League, 3.5 games behind division leading Pawtucket. The week culminated with the ‘Pigs coughing up a 7 run lead when Michael Schwimer gave up 6 in the ninth to Gwinnett yesterday.
Lehigh Valley continues their road trip with three more in Gwinnett before returning home Friday to begin an 8 game homestand against division leading Pawtucket.
Leaders: Hitting: Kyle Hudson is 8th in stolen bases (9)
Pitching: Scott Elarton is tied for the league lead in wins (5); Austin Hyatt is second in losses (6), 2nd in HR allowed (9) and has the 3rd worst ERA (5.47) ; Pat Misch is third in losses (6), has the 5th most HR allowd (8) and has the 4th worst ERA (5.44); Dave Bush is 8th in ERA (2.61), 6th in IP (58.2) and is tied for the league lead in shutouts (1).
Probables:Tuesday: Misch, Wednesday: Cochran; Thursday: CLoyd; Friday: Elarton
–SP Dave Bush is the likely candidate to replace Roy Halladay in the rotation in the short term. Bush has pitched well, would be on his regular rest if he started for the Phils Saturday and has a June 1st “out clause” of his contract, which should all add up to a rotation spot in the short term until Vance Worley rejoins the rotation.
–Lehigh Valley is averaging over 8.500 in attendance, over 5% higher than any other team.
–The four game sweep against Charlotte was the first time the ‘Pigs were swept in a four game series in the Ryne Sandberg era.
—Domonic Brown is making his 5th consecutive start in CF. The last he had played CF prior to five nights ago was 2008 in Lakewood. Brown is at .256/.292/.355 in 128 plate appearances and his still without a homer this year.
—Cody Overbeck is hitting .371 over his last nine games.
–Derrick Mitchell recorded his team leading 5th OF assist Sunday against Charlotte.
—Tyler CLoyd’s last start marked the first time all season he did not go 6+ innings.
—Scott Elarton has given up 10ER in 8.2innings over his last two starts
–RP Tyson Brummett is unscored upon in 7 of his last 8 games, during which time he has thrown 12.1 innings, walked 2 and struck out 20. Notable.
Transactions: Last Thursday, Erik Kratz was optioned back to Lehigh Valley from Philly. On Monday, P Phillipe Aumont was activated from the DL. On Tuesday, SP Austin Hyatt was sent down to Reading and INF Tug Hulett was called up from Reading.
Kratz back up to Philly for Doc.

Brummett was named minor league pitcher of the week, for what it’s worth.

Looking more like Worley will be back in time to take the Halladay spot, but I believe Bush will get the call to take the Kendrick role in the pen. Savory is pitching better but he probably gets optioned.

Zach Collier is alive afterall. Also i just noticed Hewitt has 11 errors. How is that possible? I really wish they would just give Dom Brown his shot already. Phillies need a major boost.

not sure Dom Brown has proved himself enough at AAA this year. Juan Pierre has done a good job this year. Nice to see Zach Collier make his return from suspension with 2 hits, sb, run, and an rbi.

How does bringing up a guy not hitting in AAA give the big club a boost?

Agreed. Specifically not hitting for power.

I hope that they bring Bush up just to have him available to spell Joe Blanton. One more bad start by Blanton and I am ready to try someone else.
