Lehigh Valley Weekly Report

A good week for the ‘Pigs who went 4-2 and now stand at 17-13, 2.0 games behind division leading Pawtucket in the Northern Division of the International League.  Lehigh Valley opened a four game series in Indianapolis and then move on to Louisville.

Pitching: Scott Elarton is 2nd in wins (4); Pat Misch is 2nd in losses (4) and 9th in HR allowed (5); Jake Diekman is 5th in saves (5); Phillipe Aumont is 7th in saves (4);

Probables: Tuesday: Hyatt; Wednesday: Cloyd; Thursday: Misch; Friday: Elarton

Notes:Scott Elarton was named IL Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 30–May 6. During that time period, ELarton was 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA in his two starts, spanning 12 innings. Elarton currently has a 10 inning scoreless streak.

Austin Hyatt threw well against Charlotte in his last outing and is now 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA. Opponents are hitting .250 against him and are at .226 with RISP.

Phillipe Aumont returned from several days on the shelf with back issues for a rather poor performance against CHarlotte where he walked the bases loaded.

Domonic Brown made his first start in five games last evening , returning from a hamstring strain.  He was 0-3 with 2 K’s and an error.

Mike Fontenot has hit safely in 7 of his 11 games for the ‘Pigs and is hitting .308 with 5 doubles in the early going.

–Lehigh Valley is 12-3 at home but really struggling on the road at 5-10.

Kevin Frandsen has five multi hit games in his last seven games and is hitting .393 during that time period.

Tyler CLoyd is a combined 5-0 with a 1.42 ERA in his 6 combined starts between AA and AAA, spanning 38 innings.

Cody Overbeck broke an 0-15 slump on Sunday.

–In their last six starts, the ‘Pigs rotation is 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA with 4 quality starts.

Derrick Mitchell has three of the four Lehigh Valley assists from the OF.

Transactions: Last Tuesday, Relief Pitcher Brian Sanches was called up to Philadelphia.  On Wednesday, C Erik Kratz was called up to Philly to take the roster spot of Jim Thome who was placed on the DL. On Thursday, LHP Tom Cochran was placed on the DL with a shoulder strain. On Friday, P Tyler Cloyd was called up from reading to take Cochran’s spot in the rotation and P Tyson Brummett was called up from Reading to take Sanches bullpen spot.

On Saturday, OF Lou Montanez, who had seen limited playing time and hit under .150 when playing was released.  Replacing him on the Lehigh Valley roster is OF Mike Spidale, called up from reading.

  3. yes i think so. kendrick has been servicable. plus Lee is returning to the rotation tomorrow

  4. I’ve seen Lehigh Valley play twice. Very little I’ve seen that can help the big club. Jake Diekman certainly but lefty relief hasn’t been exposed on the big club yet. Mike Fontenot could help the club, not that he’s great but second base production is so weak right now. Maybe Frandsen too in that regard.

  5. The Dom Brown mystery continues. Hitting around .250 with no HR power to display. He shoul–IMO–remain at LV for virtually the whole season. We’ve got to finally figure out what he has or doesn’t have for MLB. MLB itself is no place to find that out if he has such poor results at the AAA level.

    The full season at LV should tell us…without the “pressure” of being called up to MLB to show his now-mediocre skills
