  1. That stinks…I thought he was the closest of all our minor league reliever prospects to be ready for the big leagues.

    Stutes – ineffective, prob due to injury
    Bastardo – a fraction of his 2011 self, reduced velocity
    Aumont – wild and struggling with mechanics at AAA
    DeFratus – injured

    That leaves Savery, Diekman, and Schwimer

  5. I know this is unrelated, but it is sorta tangentially related. Has Tyler Greene been shut down as well? Because he hasn’t played since the 20th. This could be he’s hurt, or perhaps they are sending him back to extended spring training (is that even possible).

  6. I hated the Papelbon signing because I thought De Fratus and Aumont could be a back of the bullpen guys this year. Boy was i wrong.

  7. Yeah, IMO JDF either gets the knife or because of rest is not seen on the hill at CBP until Sept at the earliest.

    1. I agree that the Phils shouldn’t be focnisug on starting all of these callups, if their main goal is to finalize a postseason roster. If any of the hitters is to make the playoff 25, they will likely be an end-of-the-bench pinch-hitter, so since that role is significantly different than batting 4 times in a game, they need to be sure they will handle that situation well. They definitely thought Bowker was a potential replacement for Gload in that vien for the playoffs, but it doesn’t look like he has the chops (8 PAs, 6 Ks, maybe he’s pressing?). As was mentioned, Moss is basically the same player, but doesn’t have as much of a pinch hitting track record, making the acquisition reasoning rather clear:Career PH SlashesGload .272/.319/.396, 320 PAsMoss .083/.083/.083, 12 PAsBowker .272/.344/.407, 90 PAsThese called up hitters, along with Bowker and Gload, and possibly excluding Kratz (not likely a need for 3 catchers on the playoff roster) should be used liberally in pinch hit situations going forward.
