Nice start for Manzanillo.
Really good start for J-Rod.
Good outings for Diekman and Rosenberg.
Mathieson very wild. I know Thompson’s not a prospect, but it would be cool if he got to 50 steals this season. Also a good relief outing for Savery again. Not a good night for Phillies hitters, though.
I think there is a potential tie in the International league. Is that correct? The big club needs pitching help badly even if KK returns(it go well for him to the hero).
I kind of hope LV loses. The big club needs arms and they won’t bump guys up unless LV is out. The ML bullpen is very thin and I’d like to see if Aumont, DeFratus, Perez and Savery could help. Going into the playoffs, I am confident in Bastardo, Madson and Stutes and that is it!!

Feel good story: Kevin Quaranto, a free agent signing from Siena (see link below)gets jumped from GCL to FSL and has five hits in his first seven at bats.
5/1988 is Quaranto’s D/B. Now 23. It would be manna from heaven if he were to turn out as a MLB catcher with some talent both ways. Rupp and he could compete at Clwtr to begin ’12, and the better of them could end up at Reading sometime during ’12…to back up Valle.
Catching in our system is behind the other positions, so in ’12 I’d expect the drafting to emphasize catchers (maybe 2 in the first ten) as well as pitchers.
(He was playing above his head since the promotion, getting lucky on balls in play, not driving the balls and not showing any plate discipline. He’s had a great season, but he is in no way a finished product/MLB-ready.)
Galvis for SS in ’12. J-Rolls age and injury history plus a slight decline in his range added to a continual lagging in OBA would confiscate re-signing him for 3 plus years at mucho dinero.
Galvis is ready defensively and is not an easy out anymore.
22 yr old guy vs 33 yr old guy. The future at SS should arrive in ST.
I think he means that Galvis, while he’s made great progress this year, still hasn’t shown enough to suggest that he’s a major league calibur hitter. It makes more sense to stick with J-Roll for now.
Rollins is a former MVP. For Galvis to step in to those shoes for a guy who’s FINALLY gotten his first taste of success with the bat at any level has the potential to be a major disaster in my eyes.
There is no use in explaining the potential performance drop-off at that position to some. If they are already predisposed to think it’s reasonable for Galvis to replace Rollins next year, then they don’t think much of Rollins to begin with.
They don’t recognize Rollins’ offensive superiority in comparison to other Major League Shortstops. Every year, outside of maybe 2009, Rollins is one of the top OPS ss in the game on top of being gold glove caliber. Most years his production puts him in the top 10 NL 3rdBaseman as well. This year he is OPSing as good, or better than he has in 4 years, but somehow Freddie Galvis is thought to be a suitable replacement for Rollins, at a time when the Phillies are competing for championships.
Reading some of these ridiculous comments make it seem like the Phillies will be in all out rebuilding mode next year.
I would give 3 years, with the 4th year being a club option. If he wants a vesting option, the vesting option would be 2 out of the 3 years with 600ABs each.
Rollins will get minimum, 3 years 36 million and that wouldn’t be an overpay. So I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if he got 4 years 45 million plus. There will be a market for him and he shouldn’t accept less than what he is worth, after what they’ve paid gus like Ibanez or Polanco. 3/30 should be their starting offer.
Edgar Rentaria entering his age 32 season, coming off a year where he hit for an OPS of 83, got 2 years/21 million.
Raphael Furcal entering his age 31 season, coming off an age 30 year where he missed 126 games due to injury, and an age 29 season where he hit for an OPS of 78, got 3 years 30 million.
Jimmy Rollins is entering his age 33 season and is hitting for an OPS of 102, plus he is a superior defender to either one of those guys.
If you think the Giants or Redsox won’t offer Rollins at least 3/36, you’re kidding yourself. And if you don’t think Rollins on the Redsox doesn’t make them favorites, you’re kidding yourself.
Yankees 21 year old call-up Jesus Montero hits 2 HRs—another one of their bonus money Latin free agent signees–makes me want to puke—–I cannot wait for an international draft— and the playing field for prospects becomes fair for MLB teams.
Alan…..yes, cheap in the North American Amatuer Draft in June, but in the Latin FA market they are dealing out some selected big bonus money, i.e. Montero, Sanchez, Banuelos and whoever else they have stashed down in A. Money seems to be no object to the Yankees when it comes to Latin signees and the associated risks that go with signing 16/17-year olds. This year it was the Ranger’s turn to dish out the bonus money.
