Harry Kalas passes away

Per Todd Zolecki’s twitter account, Harry Kalas has passed away. He apparently collapsed earlier and was taken to the hospital. I grew up listening to his voice, as I’m sure many of you did, and this is a monumental loss for not only the Phillies organization and Harry’s family, but for millions of fans out there who listened to baseball, NFL Films Productions, and everything else he was a part of. You’ll be sorely missed Harry, thanks for the memories.

  2. I usually only listen to the radio broadcasts online since I live out of the area now, but the fourth inning (when Harry was on) was always my favorite.

  3. I know this sounds a bit cheesy I truly feel like I lost a friend. As a 37 year old, I grew up with Harry, and he made the games VERY special. He was a true gentleman the couple of times I met him.

  8. As Chris Coste said on Comcast after today’s game it was the dream of every Phils minor leaguer to have Harry call their name. On a rare occasion in recent years and for the first time this season the Phils organization from top to bottom won them all today and tonight and went 5-0. Those wins were for you Harry! Thanks Harry for a lifetime of Phils memories. May you rest in peace.

  9. Kevin Garvey, are you Tom Garvey’s brother? If so I was in the Army with him and partied a little with Terry Nilon and you, years ago.

  10. I grew up listening to Harry Kalas on the radio, and I had the honor of meeting him several times in the course of my friendship with his youngest son, Kane.

He wasn’t just a great broadcaster, he was a great father and a great human being, and he will be sorely missed.

  11. I have a friend who’s a diehard Mets fan and she came over to me yesterday to tell me about the passing. She said, “He’s the only Phillie I could stand.”

    So long Harry.

Today we have execs and polticos who are the “perfect storm
of the seven deadly sin” All of you younger guys have at least
one example of how to live with grace and dignity ,
see ya soon Harry and Ritchie til then I willcheer a little louder for you
