any coincidence that Eddy Wade goes to Houston and they are last in terms of system rankings?

It is a coincidence. They haven’t been ranked out of the bottom third in half a decade.
Tyson Brummett is pitching for Reading tomorrow, according to their website. Savery Friday, Worley Saturday, Stutes Monday and Alex Concepcion on Tuesday.
I caught the Reading/Lehigh Valley exhibition yesterday. Stutes gave up three runs in an inning but the wind was blowing hard out to right field. Andy Tracy’s HR was certainly wind blown, it looked like a routine fly ball off the bat.

Any news on the Lakewood projected starters? I’m headed to the game on Saturday, would love to get to see Knapp or Roth.

I’m also heading to the lakewood game on saturday. I really hope to see knapp pitch, because people are rating him very high. I don’t have any idea as to what the order of the rotation is going to be

Was at Claws open practice last night and Cloyd looked sharp on the mound

I’ll be at the Reading game tomorrow night. Surprised to see Brummett get the start over Savery, but I guess the organization expects a lot from him this year.

Knapp friday, Sanchez saturday.

but given its opening weekend in Lakewood, we should probably budget a rainout in there as always seems to happen.

Is anyone irrationally excited to see Drabek starting? I’m fully expecting 27 up, 27 down, 27 Ks, 0 ERs

NEPP,

Drabek = Steve Nebraska???? How’s that for an obscure reference?

He took over a bad system but hasn’t helped it much by trading away a good bit of their better MiL talent for Valverde, Tejada, Hawkins, and R. Wolf!!

Steve Nebraska isn’t obscure! The man pitched a perfect game in the world series! He threw like 120mph! He got dropped onto the field by a helicopter! There’s nothing obscure about a helicopter fly-in, the man’s a baseball legend.

i was actually being very sarcastic with the eddy wade question……

If Houston had offered Randy Wolf arbitration, they would have picked up a supplemental draft pick. But they didn’t. Might be under McLane’s orders, Wade’s non-valuing of extra draft picks (like he did in Philly), or they just didn’t want to pay the million it would take to sign that pick. Wolf would have refused arb at the time. He even said it, while looking for a 3-year/30M deal.
The whole Houston organization is screwed up; a perfect place for Eddie to be employed.

Or Rosalinda they didn’t offer it because they were afraid he’d accept arby when they didn’t want him back and couldn’t afford him back. Wolf pitched pretty well for them last year and could have won a nice sum in arbitration. Plus from what I understand McLane runs the show down there and Wade is nothing but a yes man.

at least its a job he does well. Did he get a ring or is Lidge letting him borrow his. If he was a decent guy he would of taken Wheeler with him
good luck to all our minor guys tonight.

I’m officially geared up for tonight. Looking for Drabek to kick off a breakout season, and I’m fascinated to see how the various lineups shape up.
Also, just a quick hats off to Tyler Cloyd — from Division II dropout to Lakewood Opening Day starter. He’s bucked the odds already, so who’s to say he can’t continue to do it and climb the ladder?

Very good start to the year for Galvis, so far 2-4 with a home run.

Great start for Drabek in Clearwater: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 K, 3 BB. He also picked up the win.
I’ll take that out of him as his first start. I can’t wait to hear how his stuff was in the start.
I will make the bold prediction that he finishes the year in Reading.

Matt Rizzotti should get more playing time at first. Went 3 for 4 tonight as the DH for Clearwater. The ball jumped off his bat every time I watched him during batting practice in the minor league camp last month. His drives regularly cleared the right field fence at Carlton Field on their way toward the City of Clearwater Trash Transfer Station down the right field line. On the other hand I was not surprised to see first baseman Durant going 0 for 4 with 3 strike outs to open the FSL season. He was one of the most indifferent guys I saw going through drills in camp.

That’s good to hear, Rickey. I’ve been a believer in Rizzotti’s bat for a little while, and I think that now that he’s completely healthy (and out of the pitcher’s park in Lakewood), he’s primed for a breakout year.
An impressive night by all of the starting pitchers (except for Kendrick). I know the pitching is often ahead of the hitting at this time of the year, but still… good signs all around.

yea as long as drabek keeps the walks down i see him dominating clearwater in the first half and then hopefully get bumped up to reading to finish the season, I think he is on the fastrack now after his TJ surgery and looks like he is poised to have a great season

It took Steve Nebraska 81 pitches to win Game 1 of the World Series. It took Kyle Kendrick 82 pitches to go 4 innings in the minors. Plus Steve hit at least 1 dinger that game. Kinda makes you think…

Its standard practice to use an unproven rookie to start Game 1 of the WS, correct?
They must have sacrificed a roster spot from Aug 31st on just to make him eligible…talk about trust in his talent.
How did the Phils miss on this Nebraska fella?

Yea, I never really thought about the roster logistics, but Steve Nebraska was worth whatever they did to get him out there. I remember seeing this documentary on him, apparently he was crazy.
