I was going to use the poll feature for Top 30 #6, but I figured it might be better to test it out first. So I’m going to add a poll to this post just using a generic question. Vote and we’ll test the process. Also, it allows write-in votes, which will be important if we use it for the Reader Top 30 voting. Could a few people please use the “Other” option and write in your answer, then post in the comments what you wrote in? Thanks.
[Update] It looks like 7 people have voted “Other”, and 4 choices have shown up. So if 3 people voted “Other” and forgot to write their answer in the box, that would explain it, or it could possibly be a delay in updating the data. Either way, it looks like the method should work.
That should make it a lot easier to get the right count on who voted what. counting just 70-90 votes in 200 comments cant be easy.

I wrote in Williamsport — not that I actually believe that, but let’s see if it works, huh?

Oh, and let’s everyone use the honor system, right? It seems like you can vote multiple times if you choose to, but that would destroy the whole fun of it.

It only allows you to vote once. The bubbles show up again after you vote, but if you try to vote twice it says that it has already recorded the vote.
There is an option to scan it based on ip addresses so people can’t vote more than once, but IP address is an issue for mass providers like AOL, for those that still use something like that.

I wrote ‘Philadelphia’ for fun.
Probably Clearwater, warm and all.

I also wrote in Philadelphia as a test, but had already voted once.

I voted other and said something like Just to test, Williamsport. Also, I’m on AOL, and if I try to vote a second time, it tells me “Thanks, your vote has already been counted” and it doesn’t show up in the tally.

Hadn’t see that, but that’s good stuff. This should hopefully speed the Reader Top 30 process along — no more annoying counting for you, and the readers get to keep tabs on the voting tally to see who’s pulling ahead.

Pretty impressive group of young arms. I’m looking forward to Schreve’s debut sometime in June or July, word is plus slider/sinker, good fastball, not bad. James are you going to do a Make or Break 2009, I just noticed the 2007 version, probably have some interesting players on that list including Carpenter, and maybe even Savery.

I’m that kind of xxxxx so I wrote the 7-Day DL. That’s mostly out of bitterness that I just failed in an attempt to trade for him.

I love this feature, but they added it awhile ago. I was using it waaay back during the world series. Great feature. But, one drawback is that you can vote twice. Depending on the setting, someone can reset the cookies and vote twice. I suggest usign it for top 30, it will definitely work nicely.

Coming off arm surgery, Florida–not New Jersey–is a good starting place. Keep in mind N.J. Lakewood weather. Clearwater is WARM. Good for arms…especially in springtime.
Voted Clearwater, Florida State (High A) League.
He MAY be ready for the bigs in ’10 midseason.

I voted Clearwater but have no clue, especially with the new administration taking over.
I’d like to hear James’s opinion.

Shreve could end up being the steal of the 08 Draft…assuming he comes back fully healthy.

On the missing “other” votes I am assuming folks did what I just did. I didni’t really see that the gray box was asking for a name – for some dumb reason I thought it would “ask” after I hit the other button. But it let me hit the other button with the box blank. And it did tell me I had already voted when I tried to go back in and fix it. So at least I did prove it’s not idiot proof:)
