Yes, I got ’em right!
In all seriousness, I’m glad the Phils’ brass “got it right” this year (you could obviously argue for Donald or Taylor over Marson, but it’s nothing to get worked up over). With all due respect to Quintin Berry and Mike Zagurski, the wrong players won last year — it should have been Carpenter and Donald, as you said — so it’s good to see the front office recognize the seasons that Marson and Happ each had.
very good but
Happ should of been in the majors last year instead of failed free agents . No respect this year either. For Happ this is just a bandaide.
Happ’s now penciled in for Thursday’s game against Ben Sheets and the Brewers. Tough start but i think he’ll be ok. No one expects a win there so maybe he surprises. What won’t be a surprise is that he’ll look better than what we saw last night at the ML level.
I am happy with both picks. Its nice that we have other position players that could have been named and would have been also well deserved. That being said, I also would have went with Marson because his position is so physically demanding. Next year I think its going to be fun trying to decide who is the best pitching prospect.
my semi-sleeper pick for next year is Kyle Drabek. I think he has a breakout year and moves up quickly. He certainly has the stuff. As for position player i think its Taylor’s to lose at this point going into next year but he could be pushed by Berry, Brown, D’arnaud as well.
GOOD NEWS
Happ getting a start from this constipated management surprises me. Can we get our prospects back from the BLANTON deal (they cant get him out of the game fast enough)
(just enough to cover their mistakes)
Marson should do well in the AFL
Wonder about Drabek. In one game in the NY-Penn he pitched 6 innings, got 18 outs, without a strikeout. That is just unusual at the free swinging , transition to the wood bat short season level. Maybe he is just holding back woriking on location. One game at Auburn he was reportedly hitting 92 on the gun. With Carrasco in the starting Phils starting rotation, my “Owens 09” opening morning line favorites are Taylor and Stutes.
Lou is not the sleeper that everybody thinks he is. It takes some time to get your feet under you. Having watched his entire HS career and having also seen the stars in his eyes and the drive he has for the sport, you guys better watch out. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
