The last stop, and really, this one is impossible to predict now, as most of the team will be made up of players taken in the June draft, plus a few guys coming back from injury. The one guy I feel confident about predicting is Jiwan James, who really struggled in his short stint last season. I suppose we could also see a few guys from the DSL and VSL teams here. Anyone have any other candidates?

Given how many good, young starters are on the DSL team, i’d figure somebody from there would be coming over to GCL, but which one I have no idea…

The DSL and VSL arms that may make it over to the U.S. are the following:
Freddy Ballestas – VSL – Definitely coming over, could go to Williamsport or Lakewood.
Juan Colmenarez – VSL
Pedro Carpio – DSL
Reginal Simon – DSL – Only 17, so he could always stay in the DSL an extra year.
Beyond that there are some older pitchers like Raul Romero and Daniel Lara from the VSL and Yohan Flande and Kenny Fernandez from the DSL that are lesser prospects and could get a look in relief. There are also some younger pitchers that could be better prospects than the older ones that could come to GCL if they progress: Kirlian Campo, Ebelin Lugo, Juan Sosa, and Dario Alvarez.
My guess is that we see at least 2 of the first 4 I listed in the rotation at GCL, certainly early in the season. Ballestas could go as high as Lakewood, especially if he pitches well in the Venezuelan Winter League (Senior version).

One more DSL possible that I forgot is Gabirel Arias. He only pitched a handful of innings last year at age 17, but he was one of the two players listed in the BA signing list suggesting he was at least a mid-level signee. The Phillies have a history of aggressively promoting their top Latin signees such as Freddy Galvis last year.

This looks like where the Phils should stick Sweaty Freddy Garcia for some rehab…
