Reader Top 30, #19

A pleasant Monday to you. Quintin Berry is rewarded for his solid 2007 with the #18 spot, edging out D’Arby Myers. Hit the voting for #19 today, and if you haven’t done so, check out my Q/A with Keith Law, and also my Q/A with Joe Savery which will be up momentarily.

01. Carrasco
02. Cardenas
03. Savery
04. Costanzo
05. Outman
06. Carpenter
07. Marson
08. Donald
09. Drabek
10. Happ
11. Harman
12. Golson
13. Jaramillo
14. E Garcia
15. Brown
16. Bastardo
17. Bisenius
18. Berry

And here’s a reminder for the eligibilty

For the purpose of this poll, consider “eligibility” to be less than 50 AB/25 games for a position player, and less than 25 IP/20 games as a pitcher.

So, here is where a few other guys stand

Mathieson: 37 IP. Not eligible
Zagurski: 25 G. Not eligible

  1. Drew Naylor from Down Under. If being an Aussie is a disadvantage, someone forgot to tell Naylor. He’s big, young, strong and improving rapidly.

In light of the Law interview, D’Arnaud should see some votes here.

  2. I’ll follow the crowd here and say that after seeing what Keith Law thinks of D’Arnaud, I’ll going with him.

  3. D’Arby Myers

I think with the addition of Law’s hype of D’Arnaud and added to Galvis, Correa, and Naylor the votes will only get split up more allowing Myers to get through today.

  4. My vote is for D’Arnaud. Potential… man… potential. I also like Correa, Diekman and who knows anything about DeFratos? 20 years old 34 strikeouts and 3 walks in 46 innings. ERA’s not great (4.30) but 3 walks in 46 innings… Don’t we wish Happ or any other pitcher near reaching the show could say that?

  5. Drew Naylor. He made his HWB debut for North Shore on Sat. and recorded two K’s in an inning of no run, no hit work.

That Keith Law interview sure is sobering…. The only way to retain some optimism is to remeber that scouts and other “baseball professionals” make mistakes in evaluation of talent all the time. There are always stories of late round picks who make the majors and first round picks (not just the Phillies’ picks) who don’t. However, I do have to agree with Law, who’s playing the odds, that the system looks bleaker than we had hoped.

  7. I was going to switch gears to get Myers over the hump, but it doesn’t look like he’ll need it. So I’ll stay on dajafi’s bandwagon.

    Heitor Correa.

  8. d’Arnaud. After the Keith Law interview I would venture to say that Costanzo is way too high on the list.

  9. Costanzo still is a legitimate prospect I think – he just might not be a third basemen. My prediction: Mike Lowell plays 3b for the Phils next year, Costanzo is given a shot in 2009. By then, we’ll have a good idea what kind of prospect Mattair is, and then re-evaluate the situation. If Costanzo has some legit pop, but a bad glove, then he could move to a corner outfield position.
