Sorry for the no post yesterday, I was at Citizens Bank Park watching a tough loss. Andrew Carpenter won the vote at #6, which means the list looks like this so far

For the purpose of this poll, consider “eligibility” to be less than 50 AB/25 games for a position player, and less than 25 IP/20 games as a pitcher.

  4. Harman or Marson here. Both along with Dominic Brown and Greg Golson should already be on the list. Gotta go young and upside on any prospects list. Save the rest for the 23 and over suspects list where some of the others belong. Brad Harman has a chance to have a break out year as Reading’s third baseman and quickly move to the top of the depth chart at the position. So I go Harman.

  6. Kyle Drabek

    I just can’t picture Harman this high up on a top 30 list. I mean he isn’t better than Berry, Marson, Donald, Pfinsgraff, or Drabek is he?. I have to go with Kyle Drabek here because ceiling and hype has something to do with rankings. He was a top pick after all.

  12. I’m working on the premise that these more highly rated prospects should be potential major league starters if they’re position players and a starter or closer if they’re a pitcher. To me the next group in some order is Happ, Golson, Drabek, Marson, Brown, Berry, Donald, Harman, Myers and maybe D’Arnoud, Mattair and Spencer. I guess I need to include Bastardo at this point also and probably Bisenius still. That’s my top 20 there when I add this group to those already selected. As for the next pick, I think its between Drabek and Marson. Based on Drabek’s injury, I’ll take Marson first.

  14. I will go with Donald as the safe pick here again based on performance. I think he has a better chance of succeeding than Harman who is just as limited tool-wise. I like Marson, but this is too early for him. Golson, Garcia, and Drabek are also possibles but have more questions (and upside).

  22. Not to sound like a know-it-all, but the responses that many are leaving on these threads lead me to believe they’ve never seen a BA Prospect List. We’re talking about ceiling folks. There is nobody in our minor league organization outside of Carrasco and maybe Cardenas that have more ceiling than Drabek.
    My vote…once again…is for Kyle Drabek. (Marson is next)

    A healthy Drabek is #4 among our prospects. A Drabek who just had TJ may well go the route of Segovia and the possibly bad path that Mathieson is slipping along with a second surgery. Makes it tough to put him really high. 2008 is essentially lost to him.

  32. Not to be facetious, Jim, but this isn’t BA; it’s Phuture Phillies. I love Drabek’s upside, but given that he’s yet to fully flash his stuff AND the fact that he’s coming off of TJ, I have to bump him down. If he comes out next year dealing, he obviously jumps up the list.

    For now I’m sticking with Donald. I’ll vote for Marson next if he doesn’t win this round.

  42. Yeah, i’m really not understanding the early love for Marson when his best season has been 7 homers and 63 RBI in A ball.

  46. I agree that it is a little too early for Marson. Drabek’s placement is certainly arguable because of the injury, but Marson has not done enough yet to justify a ranking as high as 7. He is definitely in the top 15 at this stage, but needs another good year to be ranked higher IMO.

  48. Everyone keeps talking about Drabek and Marson. Both have a lot of potential, but Drabek’s hurt and hasn’t really shown anything yet. He could easily be in the top 3 next year if he recovers quickly.

    As for Marson, I agree with the writer who suggests he’s never reached the next stage as a hitter. I wish I had seens him play so I could get a better feel for his potential. But absent this, he just hasn’t done enough for me to place him this high yet. IMO he’s probably somewhere around 9-12.

    Also, I can’t leave Mathieson out of the top 10-15 – his stuff is just way too good to ignore. Sometimes it takes young pitchers a few years to get and stay healthy – Cole Hamels and Josh Becket are good examples.

    I would project the next few spots after Harman as follows:

    Donald
    Happ
    Brown
    Drabek
    Marson
    Bastardo
    Mathieson
    Golson
    Naylor

    Surprise prediction for next year. Bastardo goes nuts and ends up pitching a lot out of the bullpen for the Phils in middle relief.
