Odds and Ends

A few notes for today.

* I’ve updated the prospect tracker to include all the links for guys in the GCL. Just a note, the links are to minorleaguesplits.com, which gives more info than you can find via minorleaguebaseball.com, but the numbers are not as up to date. If you want up to the minute stats, go to minorleaguebaseball.com, but if you want more in depth split info, use the latter. I’ll update the Williamsport guys either today or tomorrow.

* Carlos Carrasco garnered positive reviews in his inning of work at the Futures Game. Per Baseball America

4. Carlos Carrasco, rhp, Phillies

“Outstanding changeup with plus fastball command,” a scout from an N.L. club said. “He’s not afraid to throw his changeup, and that sets him apart even from some of the other guys in this game. He has three pitches above average to plus and everything’s easy. The ball just comes out of his hand so freely.”

Nice. The scout seems to think his curve is further along than I do, but we won’t quibble there.

* A few signing bonuses have been reported, per Baseball America

d’Arnaud: $832,500
Mattair: $395,000
Spencer: $261,000
Mach: $95,000
Taylor: $131,000
Rizzotti: $121,000
Brummett: $25,000
Chapman: $20,000
Kissock: $50,000
Rocchio: $10,000

No word on Jiwan James or Jacob Diekman.

* Here is a really nice article on 25th round pick William Harris. The author was kind enough to send me a piece on Matt Rizzotti as well, and I’ll pass that long tomorrow.

  1. When it comes to his curve, I think everyone can agree that it’s a work in progress. By the time he reaches the pros I expect it to be a plus pitch.
