Kyle Kendrick was named the Phillies minor league pitcher of the week and Mike Costanzo named minor league hitter of the week.
To me, the most pleasant surprise was the streak of Costanzo, Is it possible that he could fill our 3rd base until our recent 3rd base draftees are ready?? I don’t fully trust Costanzo’s better hitting unless he continues to take walks instead of striking out. There isd also his fielding at 3rd: supposedly not so hot since he has been accumulating errors like a hoarder of golds…but instead this is BASE metal. IF he continues like this, or close to it, his fielding could remain a problem even if his hitting is near gold. Looking to see how he’s done in the next 3 months.
Also, what possibilities are there for Greg Jacobs being moved up to AAA and be a realistic competitor for the big squad in ’08…?
Finally, does Moran have the goods? How is his center fielding?? Will he remain at Reading throughout ’07…or be moved up to AAA Ottawa to ready him to compete in ’08 at the big club level. A shame he doesn’t hit righty.

Jacobs is certainly putting up some numbers OPS > .921, 42 rbis, fairly low amount of strikeouts, but he’s 30 years old. I think that has to count against him.
As for Costanzo, he has been scorching hot lately, and could certainly end up with a very productive year offensively. (As an aside, didn’t Jimmy Rollins always start out really slow in the minors, and then end up with pretty productive seasons by the end of the year. Hell, he still does that in the majors, at least until this year 8^). His glove concerns me more – way too many errors. I can’t help but think that he projects to be a Greg Dobbs type player, which is not necessarily a bad thing. He could provided some decent pop when used properly, and be a serviceable corner IF/OF guy.
