David Dellucci turns into a pumpkin…or Travis d’Arnaud

The Phillies, drafting at #37 in the compensation round, take Travis d’Arnaud, a high school catcher out of Lakewood High School in California. More analysis later, but to be honest, I don’t like it.

Profile.

That’s all from me for now, work is about to end, I’m about to head home and ponder this some more. First thought, like the Savery pick, hate the d’Arnaud pick. More later.

  1. Well I dont know much about either guy although I have heard some ppl say getting Savory where we did was good and others say bad so we will just have 2 see. Now a guy on the Phillies forum says he hates the Savory pick at #19 and Loves the pick of d’Arnaud at 37 calling it a bit of a save for the train wreck at 19. He claims to be an MLB scout for the Phillies Org so who knows.

  2. baseball america ranks him as the best defensive HS catcher in the draft ahead of Mesaraco. reports i read rave about the kids throwing arm. they problem might be his bat. reports are he is an inconsistant hitter. hopefully the phillies coaches can help him develop.

  3. phils took Mattair at #83!!

never thought he’d still be there, great pick.. makes d’arnaud a bonus now since Mattair is the guy i wanted at #37.

good defense, can hit for average, great makeup and the power will come.

    i’m psyched.

Its a pretty good bet that a scout in any capacity is not posting on the Phillies message board- especially not on draft day or the days leading up to it when they would be as busy as Santa on December 24th. I give him credit for his impostery- he plays the part reasonably well to his audience.

  5. I take it back, he called Austin Gallagher to the Dodgers. He knows to much to be a phony.

  6. He may well be an area scout or crosschecker. He probably wouldn’t be in the draft meeting today if he’s a lower level scout. He might not be a Phillies scout, might just be a Phillies fan.

  7. He doesn’t claim to be a Phillies scout. He’s a lower level scout for another team. I think I know which team, but he’d rather not have people talking about it. He is a Phillies fan, and that’s why he’s on the board.

  8. I personally know Travis. His father and I have been friends since high school. I couldn’t be happier than I am for the whole d’Arnaud family. Congrats!

  9. At the time, I didn’t like the pick because I felt like there were better players available. Having talked to a few talent evaluators since, I’ve certainly changed my mind, and I hope to get to see him play this year. Have the Phillies told him where he will start out? Lakewood?

  10. d’arnaud was a great pick. he shouldnt of fell. his arm is unbelieveable. i was a freshman this year watching him hose ryan dent, i think 63rd pick to the rod soxs. and aaron hiks, who led the country in stolen bases as a junior, and i think is the 10th prospect for seniors this year. but my older brother used to play with chase, travis older brother, and hell be fun to watch this year, and is one of the top prospects in college as a junior.
