I’ll admit, it’s 11:20 PM Eastern, and I’m really giddy about tomorrow’s draft. That said, I wanted to do a roundup of all the mock drafts in the last day or so, and put together the collection of players who have been linked to us in the last few days. Study them one last time, then we’ll hold our breath and see what happens. The first 6 picks of the draft will probably directly impact who we take at 19. So, here are the guys we’ve been linked to over the last week or so. If I’ve forgotten anyone, let me know.
Phillipe Amount, RHP (Ecole Du Versant, Gatineau, Quebec)
Madison Bumgarner, LHP (South Caldwell H.S., Hudson, NC)
Michael Burgess, OF (Hillsborough High School, Florida)
Michael Main, RHP/OF (DeLand HS, DeLand, Fla)
Devin Mesoraco, C (Punxsatawney HS, Pa)
Chris Withrow, RHP (Midland Christian HS, Midland, Texas) (Scroll Down for video)
Jason Heyward, OF (Henry County HS, McDonough, Ga)
Also, how about this for a last minute rumor…the D-Rays are considering taking Matt Wieters over David Price. If that happens, I might be more surprised than if the Phillies take Porcello.

I’d be delighted with Heyward at 19, and I’m fine with Withrow there as well.

The first video is up of Josh Smoker that i’ve seen as well. His arm action looks good, though you’d think they could tinker with his leg drive to get a little more power.
Also appears to be new footage of puerto rican SS Reynoldo Navarro- switch hitter looks quite a bit like Jimmy, I like him.

With all the options around him, Withrow just doesn’t look like a first round arm to me.

I wouldn’t be devastated if it was Withrow at 19 and then Cumberland at 37 but I think it would feel a little like a missed opportunity. I want Mesaraco or Ahrens at 19. I’d love Heyward but I don’t think that’s within the realm of possibility. I think Smoker is a better idea at 19 than Withrow is. Alot more projections now seem to have the Reds off Ahrens at 19.

Diamondguru now saying that Wieters and Harvey are the two high price tag prospects the Phillies might grab if they fall. Also mentioned Mark Adzick as a pick anytime in the draft.

I like Middlebrooks, not sure if I like him at 19, I think I’d prefer Ahrens at that spot.
Everyone here knows I’m a big Harvey guy, I’d be thrilled if the Phillies popped him at 19.

walt, whats your reasoning for throwing frazier on the do not draft list??
LikeLike
I won’t speak for Walt, but he’s on my DO NOT draft list as well, for these reasons..
1. He plays in an awful conference, so it’s tough to accurately judge his numbers.
2. Many doubt that his swing will translate well to wood bats
3. I have no confidence that the Phillies can “fix” his swing
