Big night Saturday as the full-season affiliates won five of five games. Lehigh Valley trounced the BoSox Triple-A affiliate. Reading, that team that started the season 5-24, won both ends of a doubleheader and crept closer to .500 at 26-33. Jersey Shore shut down their opponent. And, Clearwater posted a road win. The FCL Phillies lost a morning game.
Lehigh Valley (25-33) beat Worcester, 9-1. Spencer Howard and four relievers held the Red Sox to 5 hits.
Howard (0.96) went 4.2 innings and allowed one run on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out six. Reports indicate that he was still throwing at 94 mph in the fourth and fifth innings. Cam Bedrosian (1-0, 0.00) picked up the win in his IronPigs debut. He pitched 1.1 clean innings with 2 strikeouts. Jeff Singer (4.70) walked one and struck out two in one inning. Ramon Rosso (3.74) gave up a hit and struck out two in one inning. David Paulino (4.45) pitched an inning and walked one and struck out one.
The Red Sox scored first, but the IronPigs came back in the bottom of the third inning to score 2 runs on a passed ball and Matt Vierling’s sac fly. They padded their lead with 4 runs in the fourth on a ground out, Jake Elmore’s 2-run single, and Nick Maton’s RBI double. They added a run in the fifth on Charlie Tilson’s RBI single. And tacked on 2 runs in the sixth on Mickey Moniak’s RBI single and Darick Hall’s sac fly.
Rafael Marchan (.233) went 2-4 with 2 runs scored and an HBP. Nick Maton (.204) went 2-4 with a run scored, double, walk, and RBI. Mickey Moniak (.220) went 2-4 with a double and RBI. Darick Hall (.188) went 0-1 with 2 runs scored, 2 walks, a sac fly, and an RBI. Tyler Heineman (.268) went 2-4 with a run scored. Charlie Tilson (.298) went 1-4 with 2 RBI. Jake Elmore (.143) went 1-3 with 2 runs scored, a walk, and 2 RBI.
Reading (26-33) swept Harrisburg, 4-2 in seven and 3-2 in a walk-off.
Game One: Francisco Morales (2-7, 7.80) pitched five innings and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. He struck out four. Jonathan Hennigan (6.55) struck out two in a clean inning. Brian Marconi (2.70) picked up his 7th save with a clean inning and one strikeout.
The Phils tied the game in the fourth inning on Madison Stokes‘ solo HR (8). They forged ahead with 3 runs in the fifth on Daniel Brito’s (.305) RBI double, Josh Stephen’s sac fly, and Jorge Bonifacio’s (.280) RBI single. Stokes (.264) went 2-3 with a run scored and RBI on his 8thn HR. Arquimedes Gamboa (.196) went 3-3 with a run scored.
Game Two: It was a pitchers’ duel until the shootout. Josh Hendrickson (2.70) pitched five innings and gave up one run on 4 hits and 2 walks. He struck out four. Tyler Carr (5.76) pitched a clean inning and struck out one. Aneury Zabala (7.20) pitched two innings and gave up an unearned run in the eighth on one hit. He struck out three. Austin Ross (5-2, 5.81) pitched one inning and gave up a hit, but he prevented the ghost runner from scoring and was rewarded with the win.
The Phils scored a tying run in the second inning on Logan Langdon’s single on which he scored with the aid of two throwing errors by the corner outfielders. They tied the game in the eighth on Josh Stephen’s (.194) pinch hit, RBI double. They walked off in the ninth on Langdon’s RBI single. Langdon (.188) went 2-4 with a run scored and RBI.
Jersey Shore (26-33) beat Wilmington, 3-1.
Ethan Lindow (1-4, 3.34) earned his first High-A win of the season with six, 3-hit innings. He allowed an unearned run, walked one, and struck out three. Erubiel Armenta (0.00) had a successful debut after his promotion from Clearwater with two, one-hit innings, a walk, and 3 strikeouts. Tyler Burch picked up his second save with a clean inning.
The BlueClaws scored two runs in the second inning on a ground out and throwing error on the same play. They tacked on a run in the fourth on Vito Friscia’s solo HR (3). DJ Stewart (.280) went 2-4 with a run scored. Friscia (.281) went 3-4 with 2 runs scored, a HR (3), and an RBI. Jonathan Guzman (.155) went 2-3 with a HBP. Hunter Hearn had an outfield assist.
Clearwater (31-28) beat Bradenton 7-3 in a weather-shortened, 8-inning game.
Victor Vargas (4-0, 2.78) pitched five one-hit innings. He gave up 2 runs (one was unearned), walked none, and struck out four. Eduar Segovia (5.45) picked up his first save with three innings of one-hit ball. The one hit was a solo HR. He walked none and struck out five.
The Threshers grabbed the lead in the first inning on Johan Rojas‘ (.236) 3-run HR (6) and Baron Radcliff’s RBI single. They added an insurance run in the eighth on Abrahan Gutierrez‘ (.295) solo HR (4). Nicolas Torres (.245) went 2-3 with a run scored, triple, and 2 walks. Radcliff (.165) went 2-4 with an RBI.
FCL Phillies (3-5) lost to the FCL Tigers West,6-4. I published a separate Recap earlier.
