  1. My brother was at the Iron Pigs game. He said that the Red Wings loaded the bases on walks in the last inning. With 2 outs, the bases were loaded, and the tying run on 3rd, they brought in Ramos. He hit the first batter he faced. But, the ump said the batter did not try to get out of the way (or leaned into the ball), and overruled the HBP, and just called it a ball.

Earlier in the game, 2 players were ejected for arguing balls and strikes – one from each team (Jan Hernandez for the Iron Pigs).

      1. He is a Pirates fan, and was casually watching the game with his family. His thought-provoking feedback, from the text messages that he sent:

        1) “Lots of short players in the Phillies organization”

        2) “Iron Pigs outfield has made 2 nice plays”

        3) “So the Red Wings #3 hitter had strike 3 called on him on a pitch that looked about a foot high. Batter said something to the umpire as he was walking back to the dugout and was immediately ejected. The hitter never even turned to look at the umpire as he was talking at him. He was walking away. Seems like a short fuse on the ump particularly since he has to know he made a bad call.”

        4) “Ok an Iron Pig just got booted too. However he yelled an F bomb after getting wrung up. This ump is horrible at calling balls/strikes”

        5) regarding Dohy “This guy looks like he can hurl”

        6) “Look how Shane Robinson keeps his hands? He’s no good.” This was sent in context with a picture that shows that he starts with his hands very low during the windup..

        7) “RedWings hitter just got HBP with bases loaded. Umpire said he didn’t try and get out of way.”

You don’t get this insider scoop anywhere but on PhuturePhillies..

  2. O’Hoppe is catching fire now.
And hope Stott steps up the next rung and is in Williamsport next week.
And Corbin Williams now leads MiLB short ball leagues in steals….could be also closing in on the Wiliamsport record.

    1. Cesar Hernandez has the Cutters SB record with 32. He did that in 65 games. Williams is at 16 having played 21 games so far. So 32 definitely feels within reach.

      1. Thanks Mitch……do you know what the NY-Penn record is for a season?

Dang…Cesar’s best SB % season was in a short ball season…who would have thought that!

          1. I did notice when I looked up Roman….he fell two short of Cesar’s record with 30 in 66 games in 2012…I think that was the only season he played a full complement of a team’s games in a league.

  3. Listi and Jones are 2 guys I’d like to see up in the Show in August and September. The jury is in on Pivetta and Velasquez. Knapp, Rodriguez and Quinn are AAAA players. Brad Miller is ok off the bench for the time being. It’ll be prime time to see some fresh blood up here, perhaps a pleasant surprise or two will emerge. But the product on the field now is getting stale.

    1. Haha, pretty clever.

Until you realize that he did it against a Phillies West pitching staff that leads the league with a 2.53 ERA, leads the league with 5 shutouts, has allowed the fewest hits in the league, has allowed the fewest ER, has issued the third fewest walks, has struck out the second most batters, and has the lowest WHIP.

So, yeah, Stott going 3-4 in his third game after a month or more away from baseball does look good.

  4. just wondering….and not the most critical topic these days. and I know he is still listed by MLB as a prospect, but hasn’t Ranger Suarez exceeded the number of days allowed on a MLB roster for that status?

    1. Most of the 22 days he accrued last season came after roster expansion on September 1st. September 11th thru the end of the season counts toward major league service time, but not toward prospect status.

      1. Ah! Thanks. So I guess it is days game are played and not calendar games? If calendar days… judging from the dates on your roster moves, just this year….
