The Clearwater Threshers (41-42) lost to Charlotte, 8-3. McKenzie Mills (0-3, 3.79) labored without an effective CB but lasted six innings. He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks. Grant Dyer (5.23) gave up 4 runs in 1.1 innings on 5 hits including 3 HR.
The Threshers’ offensive highlight was an inside-the-park HR (8) by Luke Williams in the second inning off Rays rehabber Jake Faria.
Adam Haseley (.296) went 2-5 with his fifth HR. That’s two this week. Can Reading be too far off?
Mills relied more on his FB than he did in his last start. He threw it on 73% of his pitches (68/92). His FB wsat 91-93 in the first three innings, but sat 89-90 the second three innings. He only got 6 swings and misses, just 2 on FB.
In spite of throwing only 20 strikes in 38 pitches in the first three innings, Mill kept the Threshers in the game. His nadir was a 32 pitch (18 strike) fourth inning when he gave up 3 decisive runs.
Mills struggled with the strike zone most of the night. After not getting a call on an 0-2 CB in the first inning, Mills threw 13 FB in a 13-pitch second inning. Only 5 for strikes. He contimued to miss until a 7-pitch fifth inning. He ended the night with 92 pitches, 53 strikes (57.6%), 16 of 27 first pitch strikes (59.3%), eight 3-ball counts, and a season high tying 4 walks.
GCP Phillies East (9-5) beat the Yankees West, 8-2. The Phillies scored in each of the first six innings on their way to an 8-1 lead. Carlos Francisco (4.20) pitched four, one-run innings, striking out four. Bailey Cummings (0.90) struck out two in another no-hit inning.
The Phillies mashed 16 hits and went 7 for 19 with RISP. They still stranded 12 LOB.
Julio Francisco (.325) went 2-4 with 2 runs scored, triple, RBI, 2 HBP, SB.
Nicolas Torres (.387) went 2-6 with a run scored.
Madison Stokes (.455) went 3-5 with a run scored, triple, 2 RBI.
Jake Holmes (.333) went 2-3 with a run scored, 2 RBI, SF.
Jack Conley (.400) went 2-4 with an RBI
Carlos De La Cruz (.300) went 4-5 with a run scored, double.
GCL Phillies West (9-6) no game scheduled.
Lehigh Valley (51-36) beat Rochester, 4-3 in eleven innings. Tom Windle (7-3, 3.44) got the win when he navigated both extra innings with the “shoot out” runner starting on second base without allowing a run.
Joey Meneses (.302) went 2-4 with a run scored and a walk. The wining run scored on Logan Moore’s sac fly.
Reading (41-46) beat New Hampshire, 8-7. Connor Seabold (7.07) pitched five, 3-5un innings. Josh Tools (3.12) left with one out in the seventh and two runners on base. Edgar Garcia (6-2, 2-89) blew his fourth save opportunity but was awarded the win. Jeff Singer (1.40) hung on for his sixth save.
The Phils rallied twice and the bull pen tried to give the game away both times. They built a 4-1 lead thru four innings and Seabold left with a 4-3 lead. After blowing the lead, the Phils rallied for 4 runs in the ninth to take a 2-run lead, which almost wasn’t enough.
Darick Hall launched a two-out, 3-run HR (9) in the ninth to complete the come back.
Cornelius Randolph (.215) went 3-4 with a run scored, RBI, and a walk.
Lakewood (50-35) lost to Kannapolis, 4-3 in ten innings. Andrew Brown (2.63) pitched five, 3-run innings. He gave way to Jonathan Hennigan (2.81) who struck out seven in three, 2-hit innings. Connor Brogdon (3-3, 3.57) took the loss when the Intimidators scored on their first penalty kick.
Jhailyn Ortiz (.236) went 2-4 with a 2-run HR (8) that started the BlueClaws comeback. Josh Stephen (.233) went 2-4 with a game-tying, 2-run double.
Williamsport (8-13) lost to Mahoning Valley, 6-5. Manny Silva (2.25) held the Scrappers to 2 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks. Tyler Carr (0-1, 5.40) took the loss when he left with the bases loaded and Abdullah Aris (2.89) gagged on the save opportunity and hit a batter then gave up a 2-run single. All four runs were unearned because of a two out fielding error that extended the inning, turning victory into defeat.
Jesse Wilkening (.400) went 3-3 with a run scored, double, RBI, and walk.
Benn Pelletier (.275) went 2-5 with 2 runs scored, and threw a runner out at home.
DSL Phillies Red (9-22) lost to the Cardinals Blue, 16-1.
DSL Phillies White (16-14) lost to the Cardinals Red, 9-4.

Shhh, don’t speak too loud but ‘C’ is smacking the ball. He’s hit in 6 of his last 7 games at a nearly .500 clip. He’s also had 6 BBs in that 7 game stretch. No HRs to show for it. Maybe he hears Pujols’ and Haseley’s footsteps.
Listi had an OF assist. That’s very encouraging. The bat is there and if he can field a position, he moves up the depth charts quickly.

I was hoping that Holmes would do well enough to get bumped to Williamsport this year since he just turned 20. He was on the older side for a HS player when he was drafted. Unfortunately, with Bohm seemingly not ready for Lakewood I’m guessing that won’t happen.
