The Clearwater Threshers (35-36) beat Dunedin, 6-5 in ten innings.  Mauricio Llovera (3.88) gave up 3 runs on a hit batter in the first inning.  But after he settled down, Llovera held the Blue Jays hitless through the fifth inning, retiring 14 of 16 batters.  He walked two and struck out seven.  

Grant Dyer (2.25) gave up a solo HR in one inning of work.  Pat Neshek pitched a rehab inning, striking out two.  He ended the inning getting some poor Blue Jay waling away at a 62 mph pitch that looked like he was launching a shot put.  Jake Hernandez (3.13) struck out four in his two innings.  Aaron Brown (2-4, 5.35) struck out two in the tenth but the overtime runner scored.

The Threshers chipped away all night.  They took their only lead when they walked off in the tenth.  They scored a run in the second inning on Luke Williams’ line drive, solo HR (6) into the left field bleachers.  They scored again in the fifth on Grenny Cumana’s RBI ground out.  They crept within a run in th sixth on Edgar Cabral’s sacrifice fly after Adam Haseley’s triple.  They tied the game in the eighth on Cumana’s solo HR (1).

The Threshers tied the game in the tenth on Gabriel Lino’s RBI single.  Haseley’s two-out single pushed pinch-runner Brian Mims into scoring position.  Henri Lartigue’s bloop single to left dropped in and Mims crossed the plate well ahead of the throw.

Haseley had 3 hits.  Williams stole his 6th base.

Williams entered this season with 3 career HR, spanning 3 season, 205 games, and 706 AB. He has 4 in his last 10 games (38 AB).

This was the first game all season where Llovera allowed any runs in his first inning. His FB was 92-97 mph.  He sat 95-96 mph through his first four innings.  He throws a SL and CH with his FB and is working on a CB which he threw 3 times last night (for a ball, a called strike, and a ground out to first).  Llovera got most of his Ks with Blue Jays swinging at high, and hard FB.  He got his first 5 on 96, 95, 97, 95, and 96 mph FB.

The GCL Phillies East (2-3) lost to the Tigers West, 7-4.  Victor Santos (1-1, 6.30) pitched five innings giving up 4 runs on 8 hits.  He walked none and struck out six.  Tyler Viza pitched a one-hit, rehab inning.  Daniel Vilchez pitched a scoreless inning.  Junior Tejada lasted 0.2 innings and allowed 3 unearned runs.  Will Hibbs came in with runners on the corners and got the third out.  He also pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Phillies scored 2 runs in the second on Jack Zoellner’s bases loaded walk and Ben Aklinski’s infield single.  They scored a run in the fifth to come within a run on Juan Aparicio’s solo HR.  And came up short with a run in the ninth on Carlos De La Cruz’ RBI double.

Simon Muzziotti (.071) started in center and went 0-3 with a walk.

Jake Holmes (.353), Nicolas Torres (.556), De La Cruz (.333), and Aparicio (.455) had 2 hits each.  Ben Aklinski (.286) went 1-4.  Jack Conley went 0-2 with 2 walks.  Zoellner also had 2 walks.  Sixth round draft pick, Logan Simmons went 0-5.  He looks promising.  I have to continually remind myself that he’s just graduated high school.

Torres and Holmes each stole a base.

Julio Francisco (.429) entered as defensive replacement for Muzziotti and went 1-1.

Carlos De La Cruz had TWO outfield assists at second base.

The  GCL Phillies West (1-3) lost to the Yankees West, 4-3.  Alec Bohm didn’t make the trip across the Causeway to Tampa for the game.  Within a couple hours he left the Complex headed for the airport and Williamsport.

Victor Vargas (0-1, 7.20) started and gave up 4 runs on 8 hits.  He walked none and struck out four.  He gave up 3 HRs.  Jack Perkins pitched two, one-hit ininngs.  He walked a batter and struck out two.  He picked off one of the runners he allowed.  James McArthur pitched a one-hit inning and struck out two.

The Phillies tied the game when they scored 2 runs in the third.  Logan O’Hoppe led off with a double.  He came home on Yerwin Trejo’s two-out, RBI single.  He came home on Matt Kroon’s double and a fielding error by the right fielder.  They crept back within one run in the sixth when Kroon led off with a single, stole second, took third on an errant pickoff attempt, and scored on a wild pitch.

Kroon (.571) went 3-4 with a run scored and a double.

O’Hoppe (.400) went 1-3 with a run scored and a double.

Corbin Williams(.300) went 1-3 with a stolen base (2).

Lehigh Valley (43-31) beat Buffalo, 4-1.  Tom Eshelman pitched five, one-run innings.  He walked three.  Brandon Leibrandt (1.13) pitched two, one-hit innings and got the win. Hector Neris (0.00) struck out 2 in a clean inning.  Pedro Beato (4.59) earned his 20th save.

The IronPigs scored their first run in the fourth inning on Dean Anna’s sacrifice fly.  They took the lead with a run in the seventh on Matt McBride’s sacrifice fly.  The added an insurance run in the eighth on Alexi Amarista’s RBI single.  They tacked on a run in the ninth on a wild pitch.

Amarista (.238) had 3 hits.  Damek Tomscha (.182 had two.

Reading (32-41) lost to New Hampshire, 5-1.  Jake Waguespack (0-1, 4.56) got knocked around early.  He lasted 1.2 innings and gave up 5 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks.  Ranfi Casimiro (7.04) stranded 2 inherited runners and went 2.1 innings of shutout ball.  Seth McGarry (.3.63) followed with two, no-hit innings.  Josh Tols (.3.86) and Luke Leftwich (3.90) each tossed a scoreless inning.  Each of the five Phils pitchers struck out two batters.

 The Phils scored their only run in the seventh inning on Zach Green’s lead off HR (14).
