Lehigh Valley Weekly Report

Been awhile since the last update so, here it goes….Following a 10 game losing streak, Lehigh Valley has won 9 of their last 13, albeit with a 6-1 trouncing last night, and currently sit at 58-66, and in last place of the Northern Division of the International League, 12 games behind division leading Syracuse.  The ‘Pigs play two more in Columbus before returning home on Friday for a four game series against Buffalo.

‘Pigs League Leaders, Hitting (thru 8/11/14)Maikel Franco is 6th in AB’s (439) and 10th in RBI’s (59); Russ Canzler is 10th in doubles (28) and 7th in slg % (.489); Tyler Henson is 5th in strikeouts (111)

Pitching: Sean O’Sullivan is 9th in losses (9) and 5th in HR allowed (15); Greg Smith is 10th in losses (9), 6th in IP (134.1) and 7th in starts (23); Brad Lincoln has the 8th worst ERA (4.69); Luis Garcia is 3rd in saves (19); Brad Lincoln is 9th in walks allowed (46)

‘Pigs Prospects: Maikel Franco has hit safely in 18 of his last 25 games, hitting .315 with 4 HR and 17RBI over the span.  Since July 2nd, Franco is hitting .328 with 5HR 28RBI and 12 doubles.  I would expect to see him in Philadelphia on September 1.

Miguel ALfredo Gonzalez has shown good “stuff”during his work thus far for Lehigh Vallet but with up and down results.  Last night he threw two scoreless and looked impressive.

Ethan Martin has been very good as of late, going 2-0 with a 1.85ERA in his last 12 games, most of those appearances being multiple innings.

Cameron Perkins’ struggles continue, as he is hitting just .185 over his last 42 games. He hit his first AAA HR last Saturday after 172 AB’s.  Still a decent body of work for 2014 when you consider his AA production (hit .342 in 52 games), but the difficulties in transition have accentuated the questions marks in Perkins game.

News and Notes: Russ Canzler has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, hitting .400 over that time span with 5HR and 12RBI.

–After not allowing an ER in his first 19 games of 2014, Luis Garcia has started a new scoreless sreak which is now at 8 games, during which he has thrown 9.1 innings and earned 4 saves.

–SS Freddy Galvis has now hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games (.412). So far with Lehigh Valley 18 of his 28 hits have been for extra bases.

–Before last night, Cameron Rupp had hits in 3 straight games since snapping an 0-29 hitless streak.  In his last 17 IL game, Rupp is hitting just .082 (5/61)

–RP Hector Neris had his consecutive scoreless inning streak snapped at 15 last Saturday night.

–Leandro Castro is hitting .149 over the last 12 games, seeing his average drop drastically from a season high of .278.  The good news is, he has seen his walk rate close to double since 2013.

–While improving, the Phillies minor league teams have a winning % of .432, 30th out of 30 organizations.

–Over his last 6 starts, Greg Smith is 1-3 with a 6.61ERA

–While just abysmal in the majors, Phillippe Aumont is unscored upon in 8 of his last 10 AAA appearances, going 1-0 with a 2.25ERA during that span.  In 20IP, Aumont walked 11 and struck out 20.
