I have been working over the past few months on minor site upgrades here and there. Â The big thing I realized during this process is that the site as currently constructed, is not especially mobile friendly, and it is not conducive to a multiple author environment. Â Over the past Phuture Phillies has add pieces by a limited group of contributors and so the straight stream of stories made sense, but it has become increasingly clear that it can cause certain pieces to be lost in the shuffle.
So, over the next week or so there are going to be a lot of dramatic changes. Â When it is all said and done I will showcase some of the new features. Â Please be patient during the changes. Â If you have feedback during the process feel free to share it as some of the build decisions are still in progress.
EDIT: We are looking for pictures of Phillies minor leaguers. Â If you take pictures and would like to see them displayed, email me at mattwinkelman136(at)gmail(dot)com. Â We will work to make sure that you are credited for your work.
There’s a slight problem in the otherwise terrific new site: you can’t check back and quickly see what new comments have appeared. In the old site, comments you’ve read would be linked with a different color. Not so now. A little html tweaking needed!

Really an eyesore. Loved the plain white simplicity of the old. The Black just feels so misplaced. Like I”m looking at a black&white cookie.

I agree with you that it doesn’t look good right now. The green color scheme and the old header seem out of place too (although I’ve always really liked that evolution of phillies graphic and I hope it stays in some form). But I hope everyone gives them some time to work out the kinks. Big changes like this are always jarring at first, but the advantages usually reveal themselves over time. I also hope that Matt and whoever else is working on this listen carefully to the commenters feedback and tweak the site accordingly. I’m sure they will.
Thanks for all the work you put into the site guys.

I like the new look but the font for the article titles are hard to read. Don’t get me wrong, it is a cool font, but if there are a lot of words in the title, it makes it difficult. or maybe it is just too big.
Anyway, everything else looks great. (although i don’t get the green either but it doesn’t bother me)

here is an example of what I am talking about. The article “The Body Issue” looks fine in this font. One line, 3 words. Then read the Franco article title. You can’t even read it. See what I mean?

lets see how deep we can nest comment threads! (my biggest complaint about the old design was the one character wide comments on ipad at a nesting of 6 or so.)

Like the site…one suggestion..the Genral Discussion thread…just title it General Discussion and the date…no need for a long and lenghty title. But still like a brief narrative after opening the thread to open discussions.

Just a note, there seems to be an issue with the profiles. If you go into the dropdown menu, you can’t scroll down far enough to see all the profiles for OFs and pitchers. And when I tried to click on the profiles tab, then click on the hitters tab, it says the page was not found. (I was looking for the Jose Pujols profile but I found it by putting his name in the search box).

Where you searching from a computer or mobile device (the site as distinct differences between the two)?

I did some more subdividing (among OF and RHPs). Let me know if it is still a problem

It definitely helps, but some guys are still cut off. If I go into RHP>Starters, Gonzalez and Watson get cut off unless I mess with the zoom. And I’ve got to zoom way out to see Kyrell Hudson’s profile under the departed, although I doubt anyone wants to read his profile that bad.

I like the new site/layout. Need a new, clean banner image though. The current one is not the best.

Really not a fan. Now this site looks exactly like every other sports blog. When James was running things, you knew it was somebody who has watched and cared about the Phillies his whole life in a way very few people have. Now though, it just seems like every other blog full of “writers” trying to make a name for themselves rather than really caring about what they’re “writing” about.
And have I missed something? Who is Matt Winkleman and why is he running the site now? I thought gregg was running it? I may have not checked this place out in awhile but seriously, what happened?

Oh, the prospect profile guy. I’m still not sure why he’s running the site now but I’ll leave that alone for now. After reading up a bit more, Jim and Jeremy are okay. Not so sure about the other new guys though.
The thing I loved about this site was the fact that it wasn’t full of “writers” trying to make a name for themselves and get attention and praise, unlike the majority of local and national sports blogs out there. Now though, I’m not so sure about that. I will always respect James for the fact that he never tried to turn this into a sports-writing career or used it to draw attention to himself. Honestly, how many of us even know his last name? These guys though, I’m not so sure about.
