A look at the OF through the system. Just names at the lower two levels. Not enough AB’s for any real analysis.
Domonic Brown, 24, Phils 20th round pick in 2006; .266/.314/.416 in 173 AB’s; 4HR 22 RBI; 4/10 SB; .333 vs. LH, .244 vs RH, .356 with RISP; 7%bb/21% k rates; 45 games in the OF with 6 errors; 3 assists. Hasn’t played since June 14th because of a knee injury. Brown started poorly and was picking it up before his most recent injury. His stock is really dropping with his inability to stay on the field.
Kyle Hudson, 25, Acquired from Tampa in 2012; .283/.360/.310 in 187 AB’s between Durham and Lehigh Valley; 0HR 13 RBI; 12/18 SB; 10%bb/19% k rates. Has been decent since joining the ‘Pigs in the deal for RIch Thompson, hitting .277.
Derrick Mitchell, 25, Phils 25th round pick in 2005;.253/.310/418 in 170 AB’s; 6HR 30 RBI; 5/7 SB; .208 vs. LH, .270 vs. RH, .296 with RISP; 7%bb/19% k rates; 49 games in the OF with 1 error; 7 assists; Has missed the last two plus weeks with a fractured wrist and will miss at least another month. Was starting to play very well before his injury, leading the team in assists as well.
Jason Pridie, 28, Signed as a free agent in 2012; Hitting .269 with a HR in 26 AB’s since being signed 10 days ago.
Mike Spidale, 30, Re-Signed as a free agent in 2012; .306/.329/.382 in 144 AB’s between Reading and LV; 1HR 9 RBI; 2/5 SB; .313 vs. LH, .246 vs. RH, .143 with RISP. Hitting .272 with LV. 2%bb/7% k rates; 38 games in the OF with 2 errors; Spidale hits for average but is limited elsewhere.
Steve Susdorf, 26, Phils 19th round pick in 2008; .289/.364/.396 in 197 AB’s; 3/6 SB; 1HR 23 RBI; .294 vs. LH, .275 vs. RH, .375 with RISP; 10%bb/10%K rates. 28 games in the OF with 1 error; 3 assists; 4 games at 1B with 1 error; Susdorf simply knows how to hit and has a very good eye. Is limited because of his lack of power, but does a nice job.
Leandro Castro, 23, Signed as a free agent in 2007; .290/.322/.439 in 221 AB’s; 4HR 21 RBI; 4/9 SB; .315 vs. LH, .277 vs. RH, .254 with RISP; 3%bb/17% k rates; Hitting .325 since May 1. 59 games in the OF with 4 errors; 5 assists. Castro has been very hot as of late. Still needs to have a better eye at the plate, but good numbers at AA.
Tyson Gillies, 23, Acquired from Seattle in 2009; .280/.354/.423 in 168 AB’s; 2 HR 15 RBI; 7/11 SB; .271 vs. LH, .284 vs. RH, .256 with RISP. 7%bb/17% k rates; 40 games in the OF with 2 errors; 5 assists. Gillies was having a good year but has now been injured for close to a month losing critical AB’s once again.
Jiwan James, 23, Phils 22nd round pick in 2007; .252/.288/.404 in 218 AB’s; 6 HR 26 RBI; 5/11 SB; 5%BB/27%K rates; .288 vs. LH, .234 vs. RH, .261 with RISP. 64 games in the OF with 2 errors; 5 assists. James is striking out a ton and has been very up and down this year.
D’Arby Myers, 23, Phils 4th round pick in 2006; .277/.295/.410 in 77 AB’s between Clearwater and Reading; 1HR 10 RBI; 6/7 SB; 22 games in the OF with 2 errors; 3 assists. Myers was called up to Reading just a week or two ago and it is too early to tell how successful he will be. I am not convinced he performed well enough at CLearwater to warrant his call up.
Brandon Tripp, 27, Re-Signed as a free agent in 2012; .266/.317/.415 in 241 AB’s between Clearwater and Reading; 4HR 26 RBI; 4%bb/23%K rates; .240 vs. LH, .289 vs. RH, .148 with RISP. Has played 51 games in the OF with 3 errors; 7 OF assists; Has also played 3 games at 1B. Tripp has been decent, filling in where needed in OF spots where significant injuries have occurred.
Miguel ALvarez, 22, SIgned as a free agent in 2007; .177/.188/.190 in 77 AB’s; 0HR 2RBI; 2 SB; 1%bb/34% k rates. Has played 18 games in the OF with 2 errors; 2 OF assists. The numbers say it all.
Zach Collier, 21, Phils 1st round pick in 2008;.343/.385/.471 in 70 AB’s; 1HR 11 RBI; 2/3 SB; 7%bb/13% k rates; .381 vs. LH, .327 vs. RH, .435 with RISP. Has played 17 games in CF with 2 errors; Collier missed the first 50 games of the year suspended but has started very hot out of the gate.
Anthony Hewitt, 23, Phils 1st round pick in 2008; .242/.299/.418 in 194 AB’s; 8HR 29 RBI; 6/10 SB; .229 vs. LH, .250 vs. RH, .136 with RISP; 6%bb/31% k rates; 48 games in the OF with 13 errors; 6 OF assists. I am very slighty more enthusiastic about Hewitt then at this point last year, but with that being said I had no enthusiasm for him last year. Still a huge K rate and his numbers with RISP are abysmal. His 13 errors required me to actually check twice before I believed what the screen was telling me.
Pete Lavin, 24, Phils 20th round pick in 2011; .279/.324/.382 in 233 AB’s; 3HR 18 RBI; 7/9 SB; .259 vs. RH, .291 vs. LH, .308 with RISP, 6%bb/17% k rates; Hitting .214 in June. 56 games in the OF(mostly CF) without an error; 3 OF assists; Lavin has performed just as a player at High A from a major college program should, which is fairly well.
Aaron Altherr, 21, Phils 9th round pick in 2009; .231/.295/.363 in 251 AB’s; 4HR 26RBI; 20SB; 7%bb/21% k rates; .269 vs. LH, .214 vs. RH, .182 with RISP. .188 since May 1st. 54 games in the OF without an error; 2 OF assists. Good news: Better than last year. Bad News: Not by much. Still has promise though and has played a very good CF.
Gauntlett Eldemire, 23, Phils 6th round pick in 2010; .207/.350/.288 in 184 AB’s; 1HR 15 RBI; 18 SB; 16%bb/23% k rates; .169 vs. LH, .224 vs. RH, .209 with RISP; Hitting .176 in June. 55 games in the OF with 2 errors (.984) and 2 assists. AN excellent eye at the plate and speed, ELdemire has shown little else. His window closes a bit because he lost time injured last year, so he really needs to pick it up.
Kyrell Hudson, 21, Phils 3rd round pick in 2009; .202/.262/.271 in 188 AB’s; 1HR 20 RBI; 22SB; 5%bb/32% K rates; .333 vs. LH, .145 vs. RH, .226 with RISP; .228 since May 1. 45 games in the OF with 3 errors (.973); 4 OF assists. Hudson has been striking out a ton this year, really limiting his effectiveness. When he gets on, he is dangerous, but getting on base has been a real problem.
Diego Gonzalez, 21,
Larry Greene, 19; Phils 1st round pick in 2011
Yan Olmo, 21, SIgned as a free agent in 2009
Brian Pointer, 20; Phils 28th round pick in 2010; .224/.305/.403 in 196 AB’s between Lakewood and Williamsport; 7HR 29 RBI; 8/11 SB; 10%bb/32% k rates. Pointer’s lack of confidence earned him a demotion to Williamsport. He started the year quick and then came undone for about two months leading to very high strikeout numbers. I am still a believer. Lots of raw talent, young, and a real nice swing.
Dylan Couzens, 17, Phils 2nd round pick in 2012
Steven Golden, 17, Phils 13th round pick in 2012
Johnathan Knight, 19, Phils 49th round pick in 2011
Herlis Rodriguez, 18
Zach Taylor, 21, Phils 12th round pick in 2012
Jiandido Tromp, 18
