anyone have stats on Dominic Brown hitting since he was moved to CF? He has had three straight double hit games. Could be his comfort level in the field translates to the plate also.

I was as well, watched the game on Milb.tv and was impressed with how he pitched. Also was great to see a big night from Valle and would have been cool if Castro didn’t get thrown out at 3rd trying for the triple since it would have been back to back to back triples, how often does that happen.
I really believe Troy Hanzawa has replaced Pete Orr on the replacement charts. Now to get
cholly to think that way.
All those who had Hanzawa hitting .312 through nearly 50 gamers in AA, please raise you hands. Hold them higher because I don’t see any. I’m not sure I’m writing in a Galvis/Hanzawa double play combination in Philly anytime soon.
Might want to wait to see a bigger sample size in AA and also give a shot at AAA pitching before handing him a 25-man roster spot. Note that Pete Orr hit .320 in over 450 at-bats in AA at the age of 25.

Troy is a better bench/late innings replacement? Maybe but at least the idea is there.
Hanzawa is 26 but I hear he is scrappy and plays the game the right way. Reminds people of David Eckstein.
That was tongue in cheek. He has hit the number of PAs where certain key metrics become significant, but I agree with 3up that we need to see a lot more data to believe in him suddenly morphing into a line-drive hitting, reduced-strikeout machine. Any firsthand accounts of him at the plate would be welcome.
Orr’s numbers were in AAA not AA
It’s a crying shame that Kyrell (not to be confused with Kyle) can’t hit his weight. Morandini feels he could play defense in the majors right now but I think his shadow can hit better than he does. By the way, what is this Philly obsession with picking up guys with the same or nearly same name. Last year, it was Chris Duffy. Or was that the year before?
The goal is a double play combination consisting entirely of Tyler Greenes.

I hear you. Sign the Cards’ Tyler Greene as a free agent in a couple of years, in time to team with Tyler Greene the infield prospect, and Larry Greene at first base, and we can have a 6-4-3 that goes Greene to Greene to Greene.
I’ve also been hoping for some years now that the Phils find a way to acquire Andre Ethier, in the hopes that a runner might one day try to stretch a single into a double on a ball hit to left field, and then we could have a putout that goes Ethier/Orr.

I watched that LHV game last night as it was on CSN but had to endure Braves announcers. Suomi had himself a game. Dom looked ok in LF made all of his plays even a nice play running down a liner into the Left Center Gap. This Kyle Hudson looks like Rich Thompson light.
Aumont looked ok. His curve is definitely a plus pitch but we knew that. He stills seem to struggle with the location of his FB. Suomi would set up inside and he would throw it outside. Still it is a plus pitch at times running in hard on Right Handers but at times it can also appear very flat. And finally Schwim reared his troubles again last night failing to close out the opponent in the 9th with a 8-3 lead.

Schwimmer’s line was just brutal – 4H, 1BB, and 6 ER in 0.2IP. Ugh.
Anyone know why Kenneth Giles only pitched three innings last night for Lakewood in West Virginia? He has been a starter for nearly a month (6 starts). Time to see if he can go deeper into games? He was a 7th round pick.
I think they are trying to improve his mechanicms while building his arm strengthy and his confidence. Giles has a very big arm (throws in the upper 90s), so it’s a worthwhile experiment for the team to try to get him into a position where he can become a starter and have much more value to the club. He definitely appears to be improving – I would love to see him pitch.
I’ve seen him pitch twice and I feel strongly his path is minor league starter to build innings, but will be a reliever in the bigs. This guys arm is electric – mid to upper 90s fastball (albeit he makes Mitch Williams look like Roy Halladay at this point as far as control goes) and nasty breaking stuff (that he hangs more than pounds down in the zone at this point). He pitches only from the stretch when I saw him because they are working on simplifying his mechanics and improving consistency of his release point. In his 3 innings yesterday he had 5 k’s and 2 bb’s, so he probably just had a high pitch count for 3 innings of work. The good news is he got 3 outs on grounders, none on fly balls which may be an indication he was getting the ball down. This guy reminds me of a RH Billy Wagner. I believe he will be a closer in the big leagues if he stays healthy.
There was an article on him in the local Lakewood paper where he says he is starting just in order to get reps, work on mechanics (like Catch said) and develop a breaking pitch. He said he doesn’t really have a breaking pitch right now. To back up what Anonymous said, he said he wants to be a closer and so does the organization.
Can you include the link? I’d be interested in seeing what he said about his breaking ball because he had what looked like a nasty curve or slider that he just couldn’t control but the movement was sick.
Could be his splitter that you saw.
Back in April, in the Ashbury park press, Mickey Morandini said Kenny Giles has a nasty “fork ball”. Can’t provide a link.

Everything I have read, Giles is a future reliever with a big hammer.

2015 or 2016? Of course, not because they will not be capable before them, but maybe because that tandem is blacked by a large salary at the ML level? Also, that combo might require a power bat at 3b. The luxury of a fielding singles/doubles hitter at 3b will not be there as has been the case with the recent ML SS and 2b.

I think I saw Marquis to San Diego yesterday, so he’d be a no for the Pigs if they do pull a guy to take a turn in PHI. Could just as easily be a bullpen game if Worley is coming back soon enough. They don’t need one more major league (ish) guy in that rotation.
