Rosenberg, May, and Way seem like the only remaining candidates for promotion, agree?
Sweet, Stutes and Cisco reunited at long last.
Good news, both for Brown and for my #12 prospect. Of course I was hoping that Mike Schwimer could give us a scouting report on Cisco. I guess we can hope for Schwimer to get promoted too – he has certainly deserved it with his last ten outings or so.

What about Susdorf, Darren Byrd? Joe Bisenius looks finished. His days on the 40 man are about to come to an end.
It’d be nice to see Susdorf promoted so he’s more age appropriate. Its not as if he hasn’t shown he can hit at Clearwater. He’s stayed close to .400 since he’s been there. Granted there are some warning flags (power, BB rate, etc) but they might as well give him a shot to see if he can be a real prospect.
Good for Dom Brown, its ashame the injury held back his development this long. Still, with our logjam in the OF, he’s almost guaranteed a another full year in AA next year and another year in AAA after that. Plenty of time for him to grow as a prospect.
Schwimer deserves to be promoted as well, aside from one or two small blow ups he’s been dominating in A+ ball. (weird talking about someone who writes on this site lol)
I’d expect to see Brown on the big club in 2011. Werth will be gone (FA after 2010). Who knows what Ibanez will be. So you go in with Victorino, Ibanez, Taylor, Francisco and Brown in the outfield and play the platoon advantage. Gose comes the following year after Shane is a FA. A nice homegrown outfield, much like our current infield.
I know he probably isn’t expected to become very much, but Austin Hyatt has been nothing short of dominant in Williamsport, he could be called up as well.
But this is good news for me, I’m going to a game when Drabek is scheduled to pitch, and just as I was lamenting that I wouldn’t get to see Taylor as well, Brown gets the call.

Handzus, I was just asking about Hyatt on thephilliesnation. What are his pitches and why is nothing expected from him? 26.2 only 12 hits and 4 bbs.
Well, he’s old for his level. But, so were Stutes and Cisco. Other than that he’s striking out almost 15 per 9. That’s impressive.

It is nice to be a Phillies fan these days. During Fast Eddie Wade’s infuriating tenure, they would not challenge their prospects. First off, we have a plethora of prospects to challenge. Secondly, look at all of the guys that have been bumped up this year: Drabek, Cisco, Brown, Taylor, Savery, etc during the year. Prior to the year Worley and Stutes were pushed to Reading and they gave Collier and Gose a shot at Lakewood. Most of the bumps have been good for the players. Collier seems to be the one a little over his head this year. Gose has played pretty darn well. From afar, they seem to challenge the guys with measurable tools. I guess Susdorf does not fit that category. However, I cannot see what they would lose by doing so. He may hit .350 in Reading too.
With ,oves throughout the system, the start by Cosart should be interesting.
As a late round pick, he was expected to go to school, but the Phils came up with $400,000 that convinced him to sign.
Another tall guy from the pitching mound. This has been a looong spring training for him, but now they think he’s ready to compete.
Not that it’s a huge deal, but this should help the R-Phils make the playoffs this year, which would be a good learning experience for a lot of these guys.
Maybe I missed it in the notes, but is Brown with the team today? If not, does anyone know when he’s expected to join the team?
Thank god they demoted Gus Milner. I’m sure he’s a great guy, but as a baseball player, he’s worthless.
Rough first inning for Drabek tonight. I wonder if he’s officially starting to get a little tired for the season.
I am not to familiar with Cisco…could someone tell me a bit about him?

Isn’t hitting a “tool”? I mean, really its one of the more important ones. i think that we tend to forget that hitting is a tool when we talk about our potentail “5 tool” prospects
guys like gose and collier can run fast, throw hard, show some pop, and field well, but they lack in the hitting tool. so really we have like two possible 5 tool players in Brown and Taylor, unless gose and co. can turn around the hit tool
Cisco is a bit small, but he is the son of famed pitching coach Galen Cisco. He is kind of like SUsdorf. He doesn’t have tools or stuff” but he keeps doing well.
What does Susdorf have t do to get promo’d?
Isn’t Gose hitting like .280 ? Pretty solid to me for an 18 year old in full season ball.
was at the lakewood game tonight. gose is amazing. on his hit the shortstop bobbled the ball for a split second and he easily beat out the throw. Got his 58th stolen base easily (thought he stole third as well but guess they gave him indifference or something) and then scored on an RBI from D’arnaud who had a solid game too.
may struggled a bit in the first inning (due to an error charged to D’arnaud) but after that was solid. Radar gun stayed around 94 most of the night. I was honestly surprised they let him go 7 but he did well.
Rosenberg had another solid outing. didn’t realize but now his ERA is below 1. nice!!
How old is May? Is he another 18/19 year old?
How did D’Arnaud look behind the plate other than the throwing error that is.
May will be 20 later this year.
I was just about to post about Austin Hyatt, and I see Handzus beat me to it.
The guy has a 0.34 ERA in 26.2 innings, with 40 Ks and 4 BBs. He’s clearly not being challenged…didn’t show this kind of stuff at Alabama.
Korey Noles, who is even older than Hyatt (drafted last year) might be a better prospect than many think, he was 15-0 his senior year in college at a small school (Columbus State), but sometimes that kind of guy can really take off with pro coaching. Noles has a 0.58 ERA in 31 IP between GCL and WMPT with 30 Ks and 9 BBs. He was really solid at WMPT last year, too, but the Phils sent him to GCL this season (was he hurt?).
I believe Cosart signed for $550,000.

Jonathan Mayo (mlb.com) lists his top 50 prospects and the big 3 are on the list except not in the order usually seen. It goes: Taylor @ #20, Brown @ #24 and Drabek @ #26. The departed Jason Knapp is #39. None in the top 10 but three in the top 26 for the Fightin’s.

According to Baseball America, Trevor May has a 94 mph fastball. They also say he has the best secondary pitch of all the 2008 draftees. A power curveball that he can throw for strikes or bury.
Hyatt- Like I said a couple of times before- has shown the ability to pitch multiple innings frequently. He averages around over 2 innings per appearance. More than once he has had a 3 inning 6 strikeout save. The other day I pointed out a 3 inning 9 batters faced 6 strikeout save. That will get him promoted , and the ability to pitch long and often can get him all the way, if he can remain even marginally effective.
Has anyone else noticed Domingo Santana’s reverse splits in the GCL yet? Wow…weird, but impressive…
I wonder where he falls on James’ next list.
May threw mostly fastballs but his curve was nasty and I would like to see it more. D’arnaud impresses me in how he handles the staff. I’d like to see his average up a bit but anytime you have a catcher hitting third, the organization must see something good
Actually, Mike Cisco is Galen’s grandson.
Hyatt is a few years to old for his level…but he’s blocked by Rosenburg and Shwim….who coincidentally should both be promoted as well. How sick are our lower level closers?

no problem. i really think he could be a poor man’s Knapp and may be why the org. was Ok with the trade of Knapp.
psujoe, that’s correct. All the low A leagues are younger players, while AA and AAA have more veteran players in their midst. The difference in quality is highest between high A and AA. Though having seen plenty of AA and AAA games, there’s a huge difference there as well.
Cisco so far 6 innings three run ,two bad pitches; a triple and homerun. Not too bad for a first game. Soon to be ” little big man”
Susdorf is 2-4 and now batting 393, moVe him to Reading!

It looks like Cisco had a nice go-round yesterday in his first AA start, as well as D-Brown getting two hits, as PP noted in his Twittering.
DeFratus had a nice start as well, although that’s off topic here.
