You could have the operator choose which pitches he throws each time and have the hitter use a real bat.

Many of the top prospects have been the best player at everything their entire life and never had to experience the lows in sports. How they deal with failure goes a long way the final development. We’ve seen quite a few pitchers who never learned to deal with failure/adversity.
