Travis D’Arnaud took the number 8 spot in impressive fashion, receiving 161 of the 239 votes cast, a healthy margin for sure. Things are about to get real interesting now, as no player really stood out as a close 2nd place. I mentioned it before, a number of times, if you choose to vote for a player not listed by using the “OTHER” choice, you still need to type in your selection before you actually submit your vote. Anyway, full results below the fold…

Travis D’Arnaud — 161
Joe Savery — 36
John Mayberry — 16
Zach Collier — 11
Jason Knapp — 10
Mike Cisco — 2
Drew Naylor — 2
Joel Naughton — 1

Up to date list looks like this

01. Carlos Carrasco, RHP
02. Lou Marson, C
03. Jason Donald, SS
04. Kyle Drabek, RHP
05. Michael Taylor, OF
06. Dominic Brown, OF
07. JA Happ, LHP
08. Travis D’Arnaud, C

  1. jpd says:

I said it last time, and i’m saying it again, I love jason knapp. I’m gonna keep voting for him and that fastball till he gets in.

  2. Ducky says:

I haven’t voted yet because I really have no clue who to vote for. I know I’m not voting for Savery because I haven’t read or seen anything to make me believe he’s anything worth getting excited about, and I fear that injuries have in fact already gotten to him. I’m pretty sure my vote will be for Knapp, because really, it’s hard to argue against a 97 MPH fastball, but his secondary stuff is always reported as fringy. I may go with old favorite Tony Bastard, who has put up good numbers everywhere while healthy. I think I’m going to see voting and comments before making a decision.

  3. B says:

I went Collier, he’s a personal favorite of mine. But this is actually a really tough pick for me. Any of the top 4 you could make a case for.

  4. B says:

By top 4 I mean Collier, Knapp, Savery, & Mayberry

  5. fritz says:

I’m glad to see Cisco get some love–I thought I was the only one! (and, yes, I know he’s old for his level…)

  6. PHL says:

I’ll be honest and say I’m biased for Naughton for personal reasons. But realistically I’ll vote for him a bit further down.

    Cisco for me again.

  7. kruker says:

Voted for Collier. Close call between him and Savery.

  8. Handzus says:

I’m surprised Edgar Garcia hasn’t gotten any votes yet. Even though he struggled in Reading, its an imressive accomplishment just to make it there as a 20 year old. I thought about writing him in for this spot but in the end I went with Savery because of how strong he closed the season and because the consensus seems to be that he’s got a higher upside.

  9. nowheels please says:

    Fritz
Dont worry about Cisco’s level since he had nothing to do
with it. It took time for the Phils to believe like people on this site. A couple of games at Clearwater might have helped
p.s I hope we are right i hate wiping egg off my face

  10. Billy Mac says:

    Collier. Love his ceiling.

  11. brendan says:

Gotta go with Knapp. Don’t know a whole lot about the guy, but from what I’ve heard, he could really be something special.

  12. From Section 113 says:

I went Collier and it wasn’t an easy vote. I just feel like out of all the toolsy OFs we have had, he looks like the real deal. We’ll see. I think if Knapp/Collier/Savery/Garcia ar basically taking home the next 4 spots.

  13. Bellman says:

I went for Mayberry. I almost voted for Q just to get him on the board.

  14. Marfis says:

I vote Savery. Though he didn’t put forth alot of obscure stats for people to cherry-pick and ooh-and-ahh over.
he still put in alot of work and got alot of experience and innings, so he’s still right on schedule. I think alot of the downturn in evaluation in some circles is a result of the downturn in media hype.

  15. 3up3kkk says:

Went with Savery more on pedigree than anything else. Can’t say his 08 season was overly impressive but he did pitch well in stretches surrounded by bouts of inconsistency. Do like that he threw a lot of innings and showed he was healthy.

09 will be a big season for him..

  16. Pat Burrell says:

It’s time for Super Joe to make the list. We forget he was double jumped last year. Big year for this guy.

  17. Jamie says:

savery. he was really dominant stretches last season. great groudn ball rates.

  18. TJC says:

Savery for potential and the strong close to his season…

  19. DPhrey says:

Knapp. Great arm. Has anyone heard about them tinkering with his delivery? I believe that was a concern coming out.

Savery has pedigree, and in fairness put up a bunch of innings, but for me, I just don’t see him as a top of the rotation guy. A solid three probably. Maybe I should give him bonus points for the bat?

  20. PHL says:

Aussie nationals Rain delay tonight but this weekend sees 3 game series.. RAMS v ACES

From Phillies Minors , 3rd Starter for RAMS is Drew Naylor, Catcher for RAMS at least 2 games is Joel Naughton.

F6 or F4 for Victorian Aces will be Brad Harman.

Results will be at this Link:

    http://tinyurl.com/5foeto

  21. RodeoJones says:

Handzus – I’ve had Edgar Garcia here since the start, and I’m going Edgar Garcia.

Held his own at age 20 in 58 AA innings, plus pitching is always a premium.

  22. NEPP says:

    Had to go with Savery.

  23. Phil says:

    I voted other for Mattair.

I know he won’t get top 10 but I think it’s time to get his name listed instead of having it written in.

Once Mattair is listed I will start voting for Sampson to get his name listed.

Anyone wanna guess who my two favorite prospects are right now? :)

Hey PP, sometime after we finish with the top 30 list, why not do a positional depth chart kind of thing.

I saw a post on phillies.com that laid out who the poster thought would be starter and backup for each level at the catcher position.

    Here’s the post by liqwid:

With the recent catcher trades, were does that leave the Phillies catching depth down to the minors?

Have to assume Coste is not in the picture soon and more than likely traded.

    So far I have >>

    Phillies : Ruiz + Paulino
    AAA LHV : Marson + ?
AA Reading : Goswisch + Robbins
    A+ Threshers : Naughton + ?
    A Blueclaws : D’Arnaud + ?
    SS Williamsport : Arzeno + ?

We could vote for who starts at AAA one day, then backup next, AA starter next, etc. Or we could each post our own thoughts on a list of who we think is on what team and who starts… leaving out the big league club of course.

probably be best done during spring traing after minor league signings are close to complete.

    Just a thought

  24. Joe says:

I’m going to go with Berry here.

  25. BrunoSammartino says:

I’ll take Knapp also. But I’d be a little worried that he was shut down after August 12 after pitching just about every 5th or 6th day. Because of his young age, I’d bet he pitches in Williamsport in 2009.

  26. DCPhils says:

    Knapp.

P.S. We lost out first rounder

  27. B-Mac says:

I went with Collier here, I just love his potential, and none of the other prospects here are that developed, but it’s close between him and Savery.

  28. mwbbfan says:

Joe Savery—hope he gets the chance to hang around Hamels and Moyer in the Spring.

  29. Airborneranger says:

We’re starting to get into projections more and more. I picked Savery because of the major college program he came from and the fact that he’s closer to the show then the others.

  30. i know this isnt the post but where are the comments on ibanez.

  31. Phil says:

we aren’t focused on the major league club on this site john.

We didn’t get rid of any prospects for him and since there aren’t any OF prospects pushing for playing time on the big club it doesn’t really effect the minor league.

the only effect it has is losing our 1st round draft pick next year. on that end I would have rather found another player that wouldn’t have not required losing a draft pick.

  32. Joe says:

People are probably to follow PP rules on stuff like that.

  33. Greg says:

Voted for Savery here, although E. Garcia was real close to getting my vote. If Savery wins here, Garcia will be my #10.

  34. dajafi says:

I voted for Savery after looking at his 2008 numbers again. He really had about three awful starts that skewed his full-season numbers. I know you can’t dismiss those, but it’s preferable IMO to having a guy who throws six innings and gives up two to four runs every time. The groundball rate is strong and the K/BB numbers are decent. He doesn’t look like an ace in the making to me, but as a #9 prospect, you could do worse, and we generally have.

  35. xfactor says:

    Joe Savery.

Savery battled all season through ups and downs but I’m not concerned. He admitted coming into the season he needed to learn how to pitch so why would anyone think he should be dominating yet? I think he’s going to continue to make excellent progress.

  36. Murray says:

I threw a vote in for Julian Sampson. To me he’s Knapp with a year under his belt. I like Savery but his drop in velocity last year drops him out of the top 10 for me and I’ve never been a big fan of Garcia who is pitching at high levels for his age but he has never exceled at those levels.

  37. Garett says:

Knapp is going to make even greater strides this year. Savary just doesn’t have a dominant pitch. The last two first round picks will be busts. I think ppl overvalue Savary only because he’s a first round pick.

  38. RodeoJones says:

Garcia is ‘closer’ than Savery, and probably has a higher ceiling, and is younger…is everyone around here taking crazy pills?

  39. xfactor says:

RodeoJones, if it makes you feel better I have Garcia next. I rated Savery a tick higher because he’s a lefty and a real threat with the bat. But you’re right, Garcia is both younger and further along.

  40. 3up3kkk says:

I just don’t agree with the higher ceiling part, which is why Savery is rated higher on my list…

  41. Sean says:

Savery’s got #9 down! My work here is done…

  42. RodeoJones says:

The ‘crazy pills’ thing was a joke, from some movie. I know Savery had a better year, especially at the end of it, but in this formula:

    ceiling x performance x age = rank

I have Garcia ahead of ceiling and age and the performance isn’t so far behind that it dissuades me from going Garcia over Savery. I’d have to think the Phillies see something there as well or else he wouldn’t have been sent to Reading. The people who see him every day determined he could handle it.

  43. baxter says:

    Stutes!

  44. Alan says:

I think Collier is the best player on the board right now. Scouts like him, and he was one of only six 17 year olds to collect 150 plate appearances in the Gulf Coast League. Among them he ranked third in OBP, fourth in OPS, and second in RC/27.

Interesting to note that Sebastian Valle had a better OPS as a younger player in the same league. And he’s a catcher. Valle should REALLY gather some consideration within the next 3-4 slots.

  45. Pat Burrell says:

Yeah the next four or five spots are going to be really interesting with some potentially very good players.

  46. Mike says:

    Jason Knapp all the way.

  47. Write-in votes so far

    Edgar Garcia
    Mattair
    Hewitt
    Berry
    Bastardo
    Sampson

  48. allentown says:

I’ll vote Collier — my favorite from a good 2008 draft.
Knapp, Garcia, Mayberry next and about equivalent

    To Phil –
Can’t see D’Arnaud in Williamsport in 2009. He started 2008 there and ended in Lakewood. He’ll do 2009 in Lakewood with a chance to move up to Clearwater.

  49. Joe says:

We are getting to the point where people like Kennelly, Berry, Valle, Cisco/Stutes, Collier and Knapp are going to start getting some votes. I’m going to love this part.

  50. Airborneranger says:

Also noticed that Tim Kennely is playing RF for Perth along with 2b Mitch Graham who was with the Phillies and got hurt in a traffic accident an was let go. Former Phil Mark Kelly pitched 8 innings of 1 hit baseball for Perth. Angus Roeger is playing RF for South Australia. Former Phil Tim Auty is playing CF for New South Wales.

  51. Airborneranger says:

Just a few words on Edgar Garcia. Needs excellent control because fast ball is not over powering. Other pitches are average, needs to develop change up. Doesn’t miss enough bats. Very coachable, seems to adjust at every level after rough start. Still very young so always a chance to develop.

  52. nowheels please says:

ranger do you have that aussie url please

  53. Ryan says:

    I’m between Savery/Garcia for 9 and 10…

Naylor, Mattair, Sampson, Galvis, and Escalona will be makin my list soon

I see a lot of love for Cisco…why not so much for Stutes? He seemed to be the bigger draw at the games I attended, whereas Cisco replaced an injured Chance Chapman before earning his starting spot.

  54. Ryan says:

This tells you “page not found” but lists a submenu of all the statistics and schedules.

    http://www.baseball.com.au/?MenuID=Events%2F95%2F0%2F%2CClaxton%5FShield%2F21613%2F20767%2F

  55. nowheels please says:

    Carrasco 5.0 3 0 0 1 5 0 2.14

  56. SirAlden says:

    Edgar Garcia

  57. DiamondDerby says:

Agree Savery showed enough promise to keep hope alive as a #3 starter–maybe. But he also cast doubt that he would regain his full velocity. Agree 2009 will be his crucible.

We have moved to a higher risk section of the farm now. From guys who are likely to excel, given health, to guys who might excel, if X, Y, or Z.

Garcia fits that category on inconsistent performance. Collier and Knapp on lack of reliable pro track record. Throw Worley in there too as a potential setup guy or closer. All have risk, but we should hope real hard for extraordinary luck with them, because our new GM won’t be banking draft choices, it seems.

  58. DiamondDerby says:

Oh, I voted for Savery. Best combo of potential, performance and proximity.

  59. udelmongo says:

Definitely Savery based on pedigree, potential, and the fact that he’s a lefty.

  60. Airborneranger says:

    PHL posted it. Aussie link.

    tinyurl.com/foeto

  61. Marfis says:

So, Australian stats—The most interesting one to me is Brad Harman leading the league in assists. One might think he is playing SS. Anybody know?

  62. JeffS says:

    Edgar Garcia.

  63. phillychuck says:

It’s hard for me to see any pitcher over Bastardo here–the guy is pretty close to the bigs and misses bats. Savery really needs to strike out more guys before he jumps him.

Mayberry is old, but has an upside, at least.

I’d pick Bastardo, and by a significant margin.

  64. Airborneranger says:

I also noticed the Daniel Schimitt a recent signee is pitching fo WA in the Aussie league, whoever that is. Wonder why SS Alan Schoenberger isn’t playing?

  65. mike mike says:

Airborneranger did you ever get to see Cosart in the instructional league. I tried to ask you before maybe I missed your answer thanks

  66. Anonymous says:

    Airbornranger:
“Wonder why SS Alan Schoenberger isn’t playing?”

He just wasn’t picked as SS for the QLD rams.

I just saw him play just today for our PHL club.. had a great game at F6 and even relief Pitched but still not considered best SS/2B for QLD Rams. He is still 19 until 2009, I’d guess start off at Williamsport.

WA is Western Australia but goes by the name Perth Heat now.

  67. Rickey Branch says:

Saw that Harman was at 2B for all three games in the second round of the Aussie national tournament for Victoria. In the four game opening round he was at SS. Guess he has a shot to make the Phils opening day 25 man roster as the utility infielder with Bruntlett at second if Utley starts the season on the DL. Based on what Ruben said at the winter meetings looks like Donald will get a lot of playing time at third at AAA.

  68. Airborneranger says:

Only got to spend a few days in Clearwater. Didn’t see Cosart pitch, did see him working out at the complex. Seemed to be concentrating on consistent release points and landings when I saw him. Compton said he’s doing really good.

  69. rb worst possible scenerio harmon should not be on mlb roster, and brunlett should be in aaa not donald. ws teams have to move on like boston. if their excuse is for donald to gain experience at 3rd how many times last year did i say donald should have been playing 3rd then.looks like service time. donald is a better hitter than brunlett right now and will quickly blow by him. same with marson. isnt paulino another lh.once again their afraid of eating a contract. feliz next year. meanwhile we may lose valuable early games.

  70. mike mike says:

    Thanks you

  71. nowheels please says:

Look as i said before I am ancient and this teams has always been the same look up Terry Harmon played utiltiy for years when he finally would get in games he stunk he played 10 years . No matter what excuse u make Bruntlett stinks but so did taguchi. I dont understand why they are so stuborn but
one they decide something u would think they are from
Texas, Offering any team Eaton who would pay him 1 mil is an example Eat the contract Jenkins as well before the regular season but as long as Gillick is still here NEVER HAPPEN
(I screamed that and scared the dog)

  72. mike mike says:

nowwheels please just was thinking, wasn’t it harmon who caught rose liner to third in mahafftey no hitter

  73. mwbbfan says:

Vukovich caught Rose liner to end Rick Wise no-hitter. I don’t think Mahaffey had a nohitter and he and Harmon did not play together as Phillies.

  74. Pat Burrell says:

James a possible suggestion for the poll? On Sickels blog there is a top 150 readers poll going on and they do testers that are added to the poll, if they don’t get above 5 percent of the vote they are removed and another guy is added. Just a suggestion to keep some fresh names coming on the list.

  75. mike mike says:

your right thank you, did wise hit a homerun in that game

  76. B says:

lol so people would rather we have Donald ride the pine the entire year on the bench rather than getting playing time in AAA learning third base?

  77. erich says:

Mike mike, Wise hit TWO home runs that game!
