Donald wins Darrell Stenson Award

In the article talking about Chase Utley’s injury, its mentioned that Donald won the AFL’s Darrell Stenson Award, given to the player who displays hard work, leadership, and unselfishness. A nice way to cap off his 2008. He better rest up, because I think he’s going to end up playing a big role in 2009.

Great year for Donald…The Utley injury means the Phils have to hang on to him this offseason. Most people (including myself) forget how lucky the Phils have been the last few years with injuries. The biggest reason for keeping Donald all along might have been the depth he gives us at two critical positions.

I’ve always thought Donald was important as he gave them depth all over the IF. I’m glad they have him and not Ron Mahay.

  3. now we shall see jason donald. obviously he is not utley but he is the same hard nosed type of player. i see him at 2nd until utley is back but dont be surprised if utley is ready for opening day.no moves are needed iguchi i dont think will be back or they wouldnt have released him. and they obviously knew utley needed surgery when they released igichi. this almost gauranteews that donald will get regular playing time.

One guy they might fast track is Troy Hanzawa. A jump to
Clearwater wouldnt be out of his age group and he is a superior field. Set him up for utility IF and maybe get a surprise. Not much to lose.
Anyone know if Harmon has the arm to play third

Worked out Doanld’s cumulative stats for 2008, including Reading, Olympics and Fall Ball:

    474 AB, 84 R, 156 H, 32 2B, 6 3B, 20 HR, 76 RBI, 63 BB, 13 SB, 260 TB

    .329 BA, .549 SLG, .414 OBP, .963 OPS

Pretty decent or a SS. Hell, pretty decent for a 2B or 3B.

  6. NEPP says:

What a bum!!! Trade him now!

For the math impaired, that’s a HR every 23.7 ABs. Or if he were to get 600 AB, he’d have hit 25 HR. That’s pretty freaking good for a middle infielder. Hell its good for a 3B. This absurd theory that his bat won’t play at 3B is getting old.

Yes, JD’s bat won’t play at 3B, Keith Law hates the Phillies, and CBP is a bandbox.
