Its all downhill for Steve Susdorf

When you start your pro career with a grand slam, everything else will seem like a disappointment, right?

  1. So he’s had a pretty good couple of months between this and the CWS.

  2. Bmyers says:

Has Anthony Hewitt played yet? If not why hasn’t he?

  3. Jamie says:

i was thinking of posting the same thing. how are you gonna top that for your first AB in pro ball? might as well start booing him in philly now

  4. Jeff O says:

Heckuva way to start a career for Susdorf. 3 more rbis for Overbeck too – he now has 23 rbi in 22 games with only 21 hits. Pretty impressive production

They are converting Hewitt to third base, probably working on his defense in Clearwater before they send him to a lower level to start his career.

maybe they should convert susdorf to catcher and bring him to CBP because he already has more RBI’s than Ruiz!!

  7. PP Fan says:

this guy certainly has a flair for the dramatic. gotta love that!

  8. PhillyFriar says:

Susdorf will be one of those long-shot guys you really root for in the minors… even if he doesn’t have the quintessential tools, he’s had a helluva career at Fresno State and certainly seems to have the intangibles on his side.

And Overbeck has a ton of RBI’s, but his K:BB ratio scares me (2:21). That’s why despite his low average (.219) and RBI total (6), I’m most impressed by Jeremy Hamilton among the Phils’ college draftees — because he sports a 16:26 K:BB ratio thus far.

  9. PP Fan says:

i would bet on a guy like susdorf any day of the week. he is the type of player that everyone under rates, but keeps producing and producing and finally the scouts just give up with all of the “tools” crap.

i am a huge football fan, so i think of susdorf and zach thomas in the same light. no way zach should have made the nfl let alone become a hall of famer. there are some guys who you just can’t put a stop watch to. they are red light players.

now i know that susdorf has a while to go. he hasn’t even started his career. but i think that he has that “it” that will make him a productive mlb player. just a hunch.

  10. Paul says:

While watching the CWS, I really liked this guy’s swing.

  11. Greg says:

I had tickets to watch this game too, but then my wife had to go into labor…

  12. Jeff O says:

So I’m a bit in the dark about Susdorf. What kind of prospect is he? Since I didn’t follow the CWS at all, what was notable about his performance?

He’s certainly off to a nice start down in Williamsport.

Alan one game so far for hewitt. 4strikeouts in 5 a.b.

  14. mike says:

    Jeff,

I watched a lot of their CWS games and he seems to be a grinder type that’s pretty polished. He may not have a real high upside but to me he seems like a professional hitter with a little bit of power.

  15. mike says:

alright susdorf didn’t play last night? Chance he got moved up to Lakewood? any word anyone? I’d love to see him later this month when i’m catching some games there.

  16. Squire says:

Susdorf was excused for a couple days to join his Fresno State team at the ESPYs, as they were nominated.

  17. mike says:

thx squire. that makes sense although I’d still love to see him move up before the end of the year.
