Reader Top 30, #13

Today we vote for lucky #13. So far, looking at the list you guys produced, we have a solid Top 12, and we have another handful of guys who should at least contribute at the major league level at some point. My list is going to look different, but so far, I think this has gone well.

01. Carrasco
02. Cardenas
03. Savery
04. Costanzo
05. Outman
06. Carpenter
07. Marson
08. Donald
09. Drabek
10. Happ
11. Harman
12. Golson

And here’s a reminder for the eligibilty

For the purpose of this poll, consider “eligibility” to be less than 50 AB/25 games for a position player, and less than 25 IP/20 games as a pitcher.

So, here is where a few other guys stand

Mathieson: 37 IP. Not eligible
Zagurski: 25 G. Not eligible

  1. Catch 22 f/k/a H Man says:

    Bastardo

  2. danny says:

Again DOMINICK BROWN with Edgar Garcia a close second. These two have to be picked sooner or later.

  3. Nick says:

    Jason Jaramillo

  4. PhillyFriar says:

Jaramillo. I’ve been waiting to vote for Edgar Garcia, but I’ve got to stick to my guns while Jason’s still on the board.

  5. Matt says:

    Jaramillo

  6. xfactor says:

    Jaramillo.

I still think Drew Naylor has a higher ceiling but he won’t get the votes…

  7. Cromp says:

    Jaramillo

  8. EDGE57 says:

    Jason Jaramillo

  9. H-Man, you made it through. Congrats!

  10. The Red Tornado says:

I just dont Jaramillo enough for this spot

    Edgar Garcia

  11. Billy Mac says:

Jaramillo. There are some with higher ceilings, but Jaramillo has the highest likelihood at this stage of making major league contributions.

  12. Michael Bourn says:

    D’Arby Myers.

  13. allentown says:

    Dominic Brown

  14. Mr.C says:

    D’Arby Myers

  15. dajafi says:

    Bastardo

  16. Ducky says:

    Tony Bastard.

  17. Walt says:

Wow, Golson made it at #12. He should be at like #112. Dominic Brown a good pick here.

  18. Rickey Branch says:

Jumping on the Jaramillo bandwagon. Must be doing something right to be the Int’l league All Star catcher and the catcher for Team USA in the upcoming World Cup games in Taipei.

  19. Catch 22 f/k/a H Man says:

Thanks PP for the many suggestions on getting. If I get blocked using this handle, my next name will be “I AM NOT SPAM”

As for the players, I just love Bastardo’s numbers – it suggests to me a player with an exceptionally high upside who could rush through the minors and help the big team soon. To me, Jaramillio is okay, but it is not clear he would represent an upgrade on Ruiz, who the club likes a lot (and rightfully so, his stat.s don’t tell you nearly the whole story with him, but he’s awfully solid if you’re not starved for offense) – you could put Jaramillo anywhere between 13 and 20 and it would make sense. Brown and Berry should also be in the mix at this number.

  20. Andrew says:

I’m going to go with Dominic Brown here. I like his potential. He made major strides and could be a stud for this team in the future. I choose Brown over Garcia then Bastardo. Jaramillo is a nice prospect/player, but I like these guys’ ceilings better.

  21. Chapel Hillian says:

I’m going with Garcia because of his ceiling and because he turned it around late in the season.

  22. msb says:

    Jaramillo

  23. Jeff O says:

Looks like it’s Jaramillo’s day today.

  24. smokey says:

Edgar Garcia — top five prospect last year —didn’t decline that much.

  25. Joe says:

    Drew Naylor

  26. Lou Holtz says:

    Will Savage

  27. Murray says:

It look’s like jaramillo’s day but I’ll still vote for Myers who has much more potential. IMO, 1 or 2 of our top 10 will be traded for a pitcher(s) in the off season so we’ll have to wait and see. How about Carpenter and Happ for Derek Lowe?

  28. Joe says:

Jaramillo, the will savage above me, is quite interesting

  29. Oreo & Phillie says:

    D’Arby Myers for me.

  30. Eric says:

    Jaramillo

  31. Berger says:

Looks like the last time I have to vote for JJ, I will agree with a few of you that his ceiling isnt that high but the Kid can catch and hes a switch hitter and still showing ability to learn how too hit as he moves up.

  32. joe deptford says:

    JARAMILLO

  33. Slinging Southpaw says:

    Edgar Garcia

  34. Art D. says:

I wish D’Arby Myers had not hit the wall 20% into the season.

Thinking that Dom Brown could be one of our best draft choices…could be a 5-tool guy!

    Dom Brown!

  35. andyb says:

Edgar Garcia over Dominick Brown. Garcia has the high ceiling and the stuff to justify his bonus. Needs to stay healthy and refine a strikeout pitch. Brown also has a high ceiling. Still don’t understand the support for Jaramillo.

  36. bobbyboucher24 says:

    J J

  37. Jamie says:

    bastardo

i don’t get the jaramillo hype.

  38. Andy says:

    Garcia

On another note, in an article about CJ Henry, he says “It was weird, the whole year I needed glasses. The last month with contacts, I hit .300. It was an unfortunate deal I didn’t get them sooner.”

  39. taco pal says:

Hey, if it worked for Charlie Sheen…

  40. Jeff in Tizampa says:

    Slayden

  41. GKit says:

    jaramillo

  42. Big Rob says:

    Edgar Garcia

  43. Cory says:

    Jaramillo
    Myers
    Garcia

  44. hags says:

Dominic Brown because of his high ceiling and step up this past season.

  45. . says:

    D’arby Myers.

A MLB Backup catcher shouldn’t make the top 15 list.

  46. Luke says:

    jaramillo

  47. BringBackSchill says:

    Edgar Garcia
I don’t get the love for Jaramillo either, D’Arnaud is a better prospect than JJ.

  48. agentlinden says:

    Antonio Bastardo

  49. SirAlden says:

    D’Arby Myers.

  50. JeffS says:

    D’Arby Myers

  51. SteveB says:

Bastardo for me here. Jaramillo is a serious snoozefest for me. And as for Garcia – he’s still very young but not THAT much younger than Bastardo and, frankly, he’s not put up dominant numbers anywhere to this point to get me excited.

  52. Andy says:

    Naylor.

I don’t trust “tools guys” in the Phils system – so set aside Myers and Brown.
I distrust Bastardo because I don’t get the idea that management/development likes him very much despite his 07 results.
It’s a mistzake to project Jaramillo who, with all the other catchers coming up, will probably end up as trade bait.

    To recap: Naylor.

  53. kkreider13 says:

Jaramillo, and I agree with Andy, probably will end up as trade bait in the near future

  54. fritz says:

    D-Brown.

Like others on this list, I’m surprised Golson scored as high as he did. Imo, he should be in the bottom-half, not the top, of a list of 30.

  55. phillychuck says:

Jaramillo-can’t be sure he’s a back-up at this point–catchers often learn to hit a bit later than other players b/c of the workload behind the plate.

  56. Nails says:

Jason J should have been ahead of Golson… Golson will never play in the majors…

  57. Luke says:

    bastardo

  58. Jim says:

    Jaramillo
